Freeview reception at HP21 7ET

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Dsb : No problem! your findings when using a temporary connection into the aerial referred to somewhat proving that your problem was indeed caused by a fault on the input feed from the communal loft aerial, at least when the aerial installer has re-routed the cabling you will no longer be reliant on the communal system.

My mother lives in Allerton Bradford and has a freeview box. The aerial is on the roof and is sound. Her television keeps breaking up and making clicking noises. She has changed her box twice thinking this was the problem, but it isn't! She bought a new box and television last November. The weather does not make any difference, indeed the picture is quite ok in bad weather. She has phone the helpline number and gone through unplugging the aerial etc but this has not made a difference. Her post code is BD15 7RB

She has live at this address for 5 years and has not had this problem before. Would be very grateful for any advice. Many thanks.

J Wilkinson: Is there anything in the house that could be causing interference to her Freeview signal ie fridges/heating etc? Is the aerial and/or cables at fault? I would hazard a guess it could be one of those two possibilities.

J Wilkinson: First off, check that the TV is tuned to the Emley Moor transmitter and not the Belmont one, which is 40 degrees anti-clockwise of Emley.

Do this by viewing the signal strength screen on the following seven services (five if it doesn't receive HD). Then check the tuned UHF channel (frequency):

PSB1 - BBC One - C47 (682MHz)
PSB2 - ITV - C44 (658MHz)
PSB3 - BBC One HD - C41 (634MHz)
COM4 - ITV3 - C51 (714MHz)
COM5 - Pick - C52 (722MHz)
COM6 - 4Music - C48 (690MHz)

It could, potentially, have tuned to Belmont for one or more channels, perhaps because it uses lower UHF channels which are therefore picked up before Emley. Belmont's six channels (in order as above) are 22, 25, 28(HD), 30, 53, 60.

If this is found to be the issue, then having the aerial unplugged for the first 30% of the scan, or until it gets past UHF channel 30, will probably rectify it.

If it is found to be tuned correctly, then maybe the signal level is too high, this being in view of the fact that your mother is only 14 miles from the transmitter and may nearly have line-of-sight, what with the ground or objects on at Wibsey possibly just obstructing.

Have had a TV with built in Freeview for about one year and have never had any problems with it until recently. Every time it is switched on now, it shows "no channels installed" and it has to be retuned, which is a real pain and happens everytime when you turn it on. When you retune it, it is fine and the picture quality is very good, it is just a real pain and should not be doing this. I think it has something to do with disturbance from 4G as a card about this arrived through the post a while ago. Any ideas?

Neilo: What you have reported would suggest that the problem is more connected to a fault having developed in your TV tuners memory system rather than anything associated with any potential 4G problem. You should try carrying out a "factory reset" on the TV prior to retuning it as this action completely wipes the tuner of anything possibly retained in it, factory reset also being called "first time installation" or "default settings" etc dependant on the brand of equipment being used.

If the problem remains the same after having carried the aforementioned out then the next thing to try is to remove the aerial connection "prior" to switching the set off at the end of the evenings viewing, keeping it out until "after" the set is switched on the next day before reinserting it, because should this again result in missing channels then it strongly points to a tuner problem.
