Sabrina

It could well be a problem with your own equipment as many people are suffering the same problem, even some of the regular contributors to this website. It could be that the recent changes are not being handled well by the software that controls the TVs, PVRs and set top boxes.

Have you asked other people around you who also use Freeview with an aerial (and not Sky or FreeSat via a dish) whether they are having the same problems? And what make equipment are they using?

MikeP: I couldn't agree with you more!

Sabrina - do you have a Goodmans or Bush digibox? If so, you are not alone, and as soon as there is some news, we'll let you know.

Hi after some help. My freeview signal has been dropping during the day for the past few weeks (cant be more certain as was away on holiday). The signal is ok in the morning and later at night but I can not receive main BBC (sd channels, hd ok) in the day. It seems to only affect a panasonic TV and panasonic DVR. A Sony and Samsung tv's (older units) are ok. All run of the same aerial but on different splits. Nothing has changed in the set up. Any advice on what is best to check next. I seem to be receiving from winter hill (aerial direction and frequency match). I will be trying to switch tv's around etc later. Thanks for any help.

AndyH: If the Panasonic's have problems, and they are on one split, start there. Why only in the evening, goodness knows, but it could be interference from a dodgy thermostat, etc.

Thanks Mike, I started to move the other samsung TV onto the panasonic split but at 8 pm, in the middle of moving it, the picture returned to normal. It does feel like interference and I assume it must be local to my house if the other TVs work in other rooms. I will look into this. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

John Butler:

Suddenly, we can no longer change anything via the Goodman's GD11 set-top box. Tried new batteries. They clearly are OK as the green light flashes (flickers).
We can watch TV by running the aerial lead direct, but no recordings.
Will try disconnecting the mains lead.
Any other suggestions to restart the box, which annoyingly cost £90 just over a year ago

Graham Smith: Welcome to the Goodmans club...! It could just be that the box has a problem (I have to admit that its a brand I would otherwise avoid), and in that case, have a look on various forums or take it back to where you bought it. There might be someone here who can help more than I can, but locking up PVR's is not unknown. On the other hand, if it has a similar software glitch to their digibox's, then your problem should be freezing on BBC channels or unable to change channels (both of which come and go). If its these problems, see this thread: My ITV/C4 Freeview channels have disappeared - what can I do? Is it my SCART ca | Help! Sarah Sayer: In situations such as yours, its always the best policy to make a local enquiry to ascertain if others are also suffering from similar problems as yourself, because if they are, then this eliminates the possibility of the problem being associated with a defect in your own installation, this obviously saving on time wasted needlessly checking connections etc.

That said, its noticed that your area is one containing a large number of trees with some of being of the dense variety, and indeed the aerials on some properties are seen to be facing directly into same, if by any chance this applies to your particular property then this might be the cause of your reception problem, trees having a blocking effect on RF signals, and which can vary quite considerably dependant on the moisture content of the leaves.
