Freeview reception at SP10 5JZ

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Been having freeview issues for about 3 days. With intermittent service. I had a few hours service this morning, but back to nothing again this evening. I just get the message "freeview quality poor or signal too low". I've unplugged and re booted my BT vision box. Still have the same message. My other TV has built in freeview, again it has been switched off from the plug and restarted. Ariel looks fine, so not really sure what to do next. Is this a general issue or just me? My postcode is SE182SF. Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Nathalie: There is something between you and CRystal Palace, so check which transmitter your on (but Digital Tradeview reckons your fine - your are very close), but Bluebell Hill looks goodish. In both cases the transmitter is working fine (see R & T).

Since its on both TV's, it sounds like the aerial - check it back to the aerial itself. We've just had a week or two of high winds and driving rain - if your aerial connection is going to get a fault, then that might be it.

If its on the roof, you might to get a pro to look at it.

alan: I would certainly second MikeB's suggestion with regards to going down the Freesat route as its virtually about the only guaranteed way that you are ever going to be able to enjoy reliable reception, a detailed terrain check on the alternative stations to Sandy revealing that the signal path from Tacolneston (@ 23 miles) is obstructed at roughly 1 mile out although possibly affected from around 8 miles, the situation being even worse using same test on Sudbury @ 31 miles with the signal path being seriously obstructed from approximately 21 miles prior to your location.

The other thing that I did notice being, that your reception from the Sandy transmitter (@ 42 miles) would appear to be via the foliage of the large tree positioned at the end wall of the properties.

Dear All,
I cant receive a good signal over the last few months, I purchased a signal tester device and it shows one green light (but I have no idea what this means), I purchased a new Ariel (an indoor power Ariel) but this does not work, today I purchased an all in one outdoor Ariel but the reception is no better (has something changed ?), can you help me understand what I need to improve the signal

Duncan Hughes: Which transmitter were you previously receiving from with reliable reception?

If you had BBC Wales and ITV Wales then this must have been from Wrexham Rhos. If you did then has the degradation coincided with a development? It appears there is/was something being built on what was grass between High Street and Broughton Heights. Whilst this is close to the transmitter, and therefore where there may be a clear path over the top of new buildings, I wonder if the fact that your receive aerial is lower down could be an issue.

Does anyone know when BBC 4 will be received in HD in the North East (I am in Gateshead)
I started to receive BBC 3 and one of the children's BBC programmes in HD just before Christmas.
I understand it may be staggered across the country. Is there any rough timetable for this region?

My postcode is B45 8HR and we use a external aerial pointed at the Ridge Hill transmitter. In the last month or so we lose signal quality and often lose the picture altogether, but only some of the day.
Looking at the map the line to the transmitter goes straight through a '3' mobile transmitter about 1.5 km away. Could this be the cause? And if so, why only some of the time? Also if so, is there anything I can do ( or complain to :-) ).

Mark Farmiloe: I think you need to look closer to home some sort of electrical interference. Even if the base station is 4G at 800MHz then it's quite a way away, plus your aerial is horizontal and its signals are vertically polarised.

If it starts and stops at the same time then that is likely to be some timed device. An AM radio (LW preferably) powered from batteries might be useful in tracking it down.

Speak to neighbours and see if they have difficulties too, although be aware that they could be using a satellite service (Sky or Freesat).
