Freeview channel number changes to go ahead: HD, Adult move on 17 October 2012
As first reported earlier in the year, Freeview channel numbers change on September 19th 2012 , some of the channel numbers used by Freeview are being moved to make way for more 'general entertainment' numbers.
However, Sky News and an adult channel appealed, and so the renumbering was put on hold. However, today:
"Both appeals have been considered in accordance with DMOL policy. Having independently reviewed the evidence put forward, the chair of DMOL does not consider that either party has presented a sufficiently compelling case that the moves should not go ahead. The original decisions will therefore stand."
This means that on 17th October 2012, the HD an Adult channels will move, thus:
HD channels move to 101-120
The "normal" order of channels is restored to HD:
101 BBC One HD; 102 BBC HD [or BBC TWO HD]; 103 ITV1 HD or STV HD; 104 Channel 4 HD; 105S4C Cirlun.
Note that S4C Cirlun is due to close on 1st December 2012, replaced by Channel 4 HD in Wales (see Channel 4 HD will replace S4C HD in Wales on Freeview HD on 1 December 2012 ). BBC ONE HD will have regional versions for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in late 2012. BBC TWO HD is planned to replace the BBC HD channel at some point in 2013.
Adult channels move to 171-198
The "adult" channels on Freeview move up from 92-99 to start from 171. Channel 170 and 199 will be "bookend" pages to note the presence of the adult channels for those who flick up and down the channels.
171 Television X; 172 smileTV2, 173 smileTV3, 174 Babestn, 175 PARTY, 176 Blue, 177 Babestn2, 178 Playboy.
The Children's and News channel numbers will move on the Wednesday that follows 16 weeks after LCN 65 is allocated (ie when the General Entertainment genre nears full capacity). In the event that the move date falls during a change freeze then the move would take effect on the Wednesday that follows the end of the change freeze.
News channels move to 131-150
131 BBC NEWS, 132 BBC Parliament, 133 Sky News, 134 Al Jazeera 6-8, 135 Al Jazeera Eng, 136 Russia Today, 137 Community.
Children's move to 121-130
121 CBBC; 122 CBeebies, 123 CITV.

I realised on Wednesday that my Sony television had automatically changed the listing. However my Sony recorder didn't change and had to do a full rescan, twice. (First time without the aerial plugged in).
I still can't receive the HD channels on my recorder, but normally no problem using the TV tuner. I am not that bothered as I can record on the normal channels.
When do the News channels move?

leslie rain er: If you have Freeview in the bedrooms then there is no reason why it shouldn't be possible to have it in the main room, that is by using a powered splitter and with one of its outputs feeding the lounge.
On the subject of Ch4 HD and which you referred to in a posting under a different heading, if you are receiving BBC & ITV HD then you should also likewise be receiving Ch4 HD "if" you had carried out a "first time installation" on your TV or box, or if that is not an option then a "factory reset", or "default setting" before carrying out an auto-tune.
By the way, the retune on the 17th was also the change the EPG number positions used by a few programmes on Com 5 & 6 such as Yesterday (12 to 19) and Dave (19 to 12), and even although you may not actually view these programmes you should really carry out a scan using the aforementioned procedure to keep your programme guide up to date.
Of course, that is unless you have your equipment set to accept channel updates then that "might" have changed your EPG listings dependant on whatever you are receiving on.

Many thanks for your response on Wednesday; by following your guidance I will now attempt to resolve the problem.

some of TVs are now flashing up messages to retune and according to this site HD and news channels should have moved, but we are still receiving the channels on the original channels.
How is that, surely there can't be an overlap period.
We receive from Sudbury.
Many thanks ..

i HAVE RE-TUNED MY HUMAX-FOX BUT I HAVE LOST MY USUAL SPOTLIGHT(local news) from bbc southwest and now receive bbc south. I very much wish to revert to bbc south west.

David S: This means that your receiver has tuned to a different transmitter (for BBC at least). Manually tune to the UHF channels used by your transmitter.
Or there may be another workaround, but we will need knowledge of which transmitter it is that you should be using and which you have picked up. Knowing your location such as in the form of a postcode or nearby postcode (e.g. a shop) may help us work these things out.

Following sound advice from Dave L, I have just turned my aerial for vertical polarisation (towards Rowridge) and upon retuning, Film 4 etc.. on UHF Channel 28 had good signal strength.. notwithstanding that the signal strength of BBC 1,2 etc.. on UHF Channel 24 dropped a bit. That was ok, then a few minutes after the retune, all of the freeview channel had 'no signal'??? (at approx midday today). After various unsuccessful attempts at retuning all of the channels are now back? The main reason of concern here is, when my scaffolding is removed tomorrow I will no longer to able to get to the aerial and therefore need to get it right today... was the sudden loss of channels just a blip or related to the aforementioned repositioning of the aerial?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Mark G: It is probably worth checking the connection of the cable at the aerial end. Maybe moving the aerial has caused the cable to break.

Only after finding this page did i discover the hd channels have been changed from 50,51,52,they are now 101,102,103,. Why was this not reported on the media before it changed and what about the people without computers many thanks. ROBERT

For a manual tune to the Mendip transmitter (auto tune doesn't do a complete job for me) I work through the 6 multiplexer channel numbers for that transmitter. Can anyone confirm I have the latest numbers please ie BBCA=61, D3+4=54, BBCB(for HD)= 58, SDN=48, ArquivaA=56, ArquivaB=52
