My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

I have a sony recorder, used as a decoder for freeview via my aerial
Like Helga, I now can't get my TV channels. It looks like it is trying to load and then the screen goes blank. I have unplugged everything and then rescanned. No joy.

Ditto to Colin, John and Helga's problems above. Sony box (RDR-HXD890) stopped working yesterday. Location: South Norfolk.
I do feel it's a problem with the box itself as the Freeview works fine on another TV. Wires etc. have been checked and swapped around but to no avail.

I'm in Northern Ireland,BT21 0AZ. I have a Sony RDR-HXD870. Exact same problems as Helga, John & Colin. Disconnected everything and re-tuned, didn't fix the problem. Recorder has now being trying an automatic update for almost 3 hours (updates usually take approx 20 mins). Does anyone know what is happening?

It's a problem with sony update on your box, both ours have gone down just looked on Sony website and it's a known problem. Think it happened Friday 19th July around 7pm. Sony are aware of problem, guess we are all waiting for them to get their act together and fix it.....

Hi All,
Have a read of this link too: RDR HXD970 no TV output | AVForums.com - UK Online
This is a national problem here. I recommend everyone send a support question to Sony.co.uk/support
The 'France' fix works well but of course no EPG!
I hope Sony are working on a solution right this minute!!

I'm glad it's not just me having these problems. I thought I had done something wrong (I'm not very technical!) or my recorder was broken. I only noticed the problem this morning. I hope Sony get it sorted ASAP, it's very frustrating!

Obviously there is a major problem at Sony - Freeview seems to have gone throughout the country. I'm sure Sony are trying to resolve this, but surely they could put a message on their website. I see they are closed over the weekend, but if nothing else, they could tell us briefly what the problem is. They will have a major PR disaster on their hands. I've never had problems with Sony before, but will certainly be thinking twice about buying from them again - not because of the products, but because of their complete lack of support today. Even the 'contact us' on the website isn't working.
