From Wikipedia: The ITV1 brand was introduced by Carlton and Granada in 2001, alongside the regional identities of their eleven regional companies. However in line with other terrestrial channels, ITV1's audience share has fallen in the era of multi-channel television. ITV existed in a region-heavy form from its inception to the 2000s, although the switch was gradual. - en.wikipedia.org read more about ITV 1 (SD) on wikipedia (summary by Clipped).

Until switch over the ITV central east signal from the Waltham transmitter in my area LE9 6 (south west leicestershire was very good. despite retuning several times now, ITV is almost unwatchable. I notice from the coverage maps that sutton coldfield is the strongest signal for my area, but I live in the east midlands and have little interest in west midlands television. Have offcom changed regional boundaries?

anon: Yes, but have you ensured that the signal you want is actually coming from Waltham? try a signal check on ITV1 noting the Mux channel number being shown, which from Waltham should be Mux Ch54. (BBC1 being Mux Ch61)

rodney : Please see Freeview intermittent interference | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice . I would suspect the problem could be a mobile phone.

Hi
I live in north sheen, london, tw and am having difficulties getting itv1 and itv2. My tv (digital with inbuilt digi box) says I have bad or no signal. I bought a digi recorder and it is even worse when I plug arial into it. I am using an inside arial and all other main channels work well. Would appreciate advice on how to fix problem. Do I need outside arial? Or do I need to buy tv package with sky / virgin for it to work which I am reluctant to do?!
Thanks
Thanks

Sarah KK,Richmond.Yes you do need an outdoor aerial as such to receive stable freeview reception.Hard to say without a full postcode but if you are on the Crystal Palace mast then if you reside within a poor/marginal reception area within as such then you will require a group A Yagi 18A or group A X-Beam XB16A antenna as such, but if you reside with a good/medium reception area within Crystal Palace itself a Log Periodic which is a group W wideband antenna can be used. However do not use group W wideband aerials on an all group A transmitter such as Crystal Palace within its marginal/poor reception boundaries itself.

Sarah k k: An outside aerial is preferred.
Don't expect perfect reception with an indoor aerial (that is not to say that perfect reception can ever be got). It is common to find that that certain channels can be picked up better than others in one location. Then moving the aerial might make some worse and others better. Finding that sweet spot where they all work can be tricky. And then there's the possibility that people moving around or vehicles passing by might affect reception.
In general, with an indoor aerial I would be looking to put it at the side of the house that the signal comes from. If there are obstructions outside, e.g. walls, another house, an annex or garage, try and position it so that these aren't in the way (or so that there as few a walls as possible. You may have to use an extension lead so that you can move your aerial further away from the television.
But as I say, if possible, get a roof-top aerial.

Briantist: There are two more, what I believe will be ITV channels, on Astra 1N transponder 11053/H/22000. They are identified by their SID numbers 20735 and 20745. At the moment they are both colour bars with WILLIAM ROAD printed on them. This is the same transponder as ITV 1 Central South and ITV 1 Central East.

NottsUK: I would expect that ITV will want to migrate the remaining encoded regions on transponder 36 (Meridian Sussex, Merdian North, Anglia West, Yorkshire East, TTTV South, Central South West and West Yorkshire+1) as soon as possible?
