My Sky box has a "no signal message" - what do I do?
If you are getting the message "no signal" this would indicate that there is a problem with the signal from your dish into your box. Even without a card inserted into a Sky Digibox, if there is a signal, you will always get Sky Guide and the free channels.
Try powering off your box, remove the card, check carefully the cables, especially the connection to the dish, reapply the power and then when asked to insert your card you should then be able to see (for example) Sky News on 501 and the BBC News channel on 503.
Once you can see any channel, reinsert your card. This should, after about one minute, give you the channels you expect, such as 103, 104 and 105.
There are three ways you can attempt to reset your box. Please see
What can my do when my Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' ?.
If you continue to get "No signal", you dish may have been misaligned, or there may be a fault with the cables and connectors, or a problem with the Digibox. You can see the signal strength by pressing SERVICES, then 4-SYSTEM SETUP and 6-SIGNAL STRENGTH.

John Bull: The BBC have changed their transmissions to use a new mode. Official Freesat receivers are supposed to automatically pick up this change. Try turning the box off at the wall for a few minutes and turning it back on.
If not, see if the box has a reset or retune option. If that doesn't help, see the other suggestions at BBC HD to switch to DVB-S2 on 6th June 2011 | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

For the last few weeks I have had no signal on my tv; I have freesat with a signal via a satellite. The supplier tells me a nearby tree is the problem when it is windy, but today there is no wind and the problem of reception is even worse. It seems to happen every day around 5 - 7pm and gets slightly better as the evening progresses. If it is not the wind, what is it and why can I not find out what the signal strength is in this area, because I have tried to and the websites are most unhelpful.

S Wyatt: The satellites are in orbit over Africa, and provide the same level of signal all over the UK.
There must be a clear line-of-sight between the dish and the satellite for reception.
If you have problems at the same time of day, see Freeview intermittent interference | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice as you may have this type of problem.

I live in a block of six flats with a communal satellite dish. I subscribed to Sky HD and it worked fine for some hours then recieved the "no satellite signal is being received" message. Tried an old Sky+ box and it worked fine. Called the engineer back who gave me a new Sky HD box. Again it worked a few hours then I got the same error. That was a few days ago and it hasn't worked since. I tried that box at my parents' and it worked fine there so it doesn't seem to be the box at fault.
Any ideas what's causing this?

John Fraser: If you have a problem with the communal system, you should contact whoever manges it, as the problem would seem to be in that part of the system.

I have an old dish left by previous users and a cable running into house from it.
I have just bought an second hand amstrad sky box with the intentopm of getting the sky freesat channels.
Connected everything up and eventually got tv and box on and went to look see what channels and it said searching and then no signal.
What is best to do next without upsetting any settings..........dont know if you can do that as am completely new to this.
How can I tell if dish is working OK, its too high for me to reach
