RIDGE HILL WEST. Brian,thank you. Clearly the 5kw to 20kw WILL alter the radiation pattern which is quite restricted at the moment and enable retunes for more sets to lock it into their memory.
Digital Uk have long admitted a misprint for ch29 ridge hill west in some of their predictions it should read '12th Oct 2011 .psb late power up ' NOT 2012 . see digital uk postcode predictor example hr8 1jq the walled garden'

bernard hunt: I would have thought not, the increase in ERP does not usually mean a change in the radiation pattern. The service is only intended to cover part of the Ridge Hill Service area, speicifically to match that of the analogue service it replaced.
I will see if I can find out specifically what is going to happen, but the main reason that I doubt the radiation pattern will change at all is that they will only have put up couple of panels on the mast to provde the analogue service, and it would be a waste of money to provide a larger service area.

bernard hunt, Briantist: Some recent photos are at mb21 - The Transmission Gallery . The old analogue ITV1 West antenna is shown as 'Reserve ITV West?' here.
It's possible that the West service started up at restricted height, from the old aerial, as well as at low power; the new aerial looks like it will give better coverage to the south as well. Should be better than the old analogue service's coverage - particularly since that was only at 25 kW; the 5 kW restricted digital service should have at least equalled the analogue service it replaced.
I wonder if they'll change the feed of any Ridge Hill relays? Could be tricky because this is only a mini-mux containing ITV1 regional services!

Responding to myself - scratch that, the only way that could work is if the mini-mux was upgraded to a full D3&4 multiplex. I assume that D3&4 is fully statistically multiplexed, so as it won't always be the case that ITV1 and ITV1 +1 'West' will be running at the same bit rate as the 'Central' versions. You couldn't stitch together a full D3&4 multiplex at the relays (even if the equipment supported it, which it probably doesn't) out of the component parts. There's some null padding but probably not enough to allow enough flexibility for this.

"Ridge Hill West - D3&4" as having an off-air feed from Mendip. It can't be a "mini mux", it has to be all the services, surely?

I'm in Nottingham, post code NG3. I have wiped, retuned by Freeview TV (disconnected-reconnect aerial) and while I can get all the channels, I have still lost all my interactive services; the Red Button does not work at all. On the BBC News Channel the 'Press Red' icon NEVER appears; the Red Button does nothing (there's nothing wrong with the remote). Same on other BBC channels, including all the BBC radio stations (just black screens, no screen info); and the interactive services for ITV, Channel4, Channel5 don't work either. What's odd is another Freeview TV in the house has no problems with the Red Button. Frankly I'm getting pissed off; I use the Red Button quite a bit and I don't see why this should be happening.

Well as an update to my original problem, it seems Philips are aware of a specific Red Button issue and are offering a free repair service which involves an engineer coming to install software.
What a pain.
