My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Thanks Chris - that makes sense to me. I remember once having to tune to the correct Channel. I think in Devizes we are on the edge of Mendip but maybe in March 2012 will be better. My neighbours (and there are actually two of them) both had Film4 perfectly before last week. I wonder it it is significant that I am on one communal satellite aerial and they are on another the other end of the building.
I suppose we would have to find out if others on thaqt aerial have problems. It actually took me four goes before I got everything back, but did in the end.

Chris.SE: Sony Bravia has an option "Program List Edit" which allows users to "remove or change the order of the digital channels shown" (I wasn't sure if this is what Lisa was doing).
Editing the channel list isn't the same as a "default setting / factory reset" which doesn't necessarily appear on the Bravia. Auto tuning on all the Bravia sets I've seen does remove and replace the existing channels.

Freeview tv hardware is poor quality and the entire system is flawed and badly marketed. That's why lots of people are having issues with it. It's not HD as standard, therefore bundling it into newer screens is a daft idea, Tuners built into flat screen tv's are of low resolution and require the entire tv to be replaced with a freeview hd compatible set to be of any use. Signal strength is diabolical all over the country and not of sufficient bit rate to transfer full hd resolution movies at the correct speed. Insufficient signal equals skipping sound, Blocky picture and the program guides are sketchy at best. The programming transmitted carries more adverts than ever before. There's no international programming or news due to the lack of sufficient contracts due to the superior buying power of cable and satellite companies buying all the good stuff. The whole system needs scrapping. Too little too late.

Funny you should say that Anon. I have freeview boxes (Humax) have have no propblems, but both my friends with reception problems have spanking new slim line TV sets.

Chris thank you for your detailed comments, I am minded to point out that many experts have been the ones misleading the public re aerials and the like.
I have spoken to coms specialists who have said that this Digital switch is more to do with benefiting the programme providers than the consumer, it enables them (providers) to stream more and more TV programmes.
I also understand that the analogue frequencies are to be sold off, what guarantees do we have that these will then not conflict with the Digital signals.

I am currently having problems receiving a signal from the Sutton Colfield transmitter.
I put up an aerial in the loft a number of years ago to watch analogue television in our bedroom. This worked fine when we bought a freeview box, however the signal for Film4 was often very poor.
I recently upgraded to a HDTV with build in freeview HD, which had about the same signal as the freeview box. But also allowing me to watch the HD channels with relatively few interruptions.
However, between the first and final stages of the switchover I was left without any signal at all, and now that the switchover is complete I am left with a much lower signal than before. Although I can watch the BBC channels without any problems, most of the other channels are very patchy.
This has been the case since the final stage of the switchover, with the expception of last Sunday (2nd Oct 2011), when I had 100% signal strength and 100% signal quality for every channel, including Film4.
I am at a bit of a loss why the signal was so strong last Sunday, and am open to any suggestions to improve my signal?
Thanks, Dave.

I live in Cambridge and have recently lost MUX C (Dave etc). I think it happened after the mid September re-tune. I have tried several resets and retunes but it hasn't come back. Help much appreciated.
