From Wikipedia: The ITV1 brand was introduced by Carlton and Granada in 2001, alongside the regional identities of their eleven regional companies. However in line with other terrestrial channels, ITV1's audience share has fallen in the era of multi-channel television. ITV existed in a region-heavy form from its inception to the 2000s, although the switch was gradual. - en.wikipedia.org en.wikipedia.org link icon read more about ITV 1 (SD) on wikipedia (summary by Clipped).

We have a freeview tv downstairs, which shows all the channels with no problem. However, we have just bought a new lg freeview tv for the bedroom and I have tried to autotune it twice, but it is not showing ITV1, Ch4 or 5. ITV 3 and Ch 5+1 is on there, as well as all the BBC channels and numerous others. What should we do?
We live in north Hampshire, and usually have London TV.

DianeS: Does the upstairs TV use the same aerial as the downstairs one?

DianeS: Yes. It is an outside aerial.

DianeS: Try manually tuning to Ch22. If it doesn't work, then try taking the new TV to the aerial connection downstairs and try manually tuning Ch22.

Once you have successfully added ITV1, C4 etc, then don't rescan until switchover, even if you take the TV upstairs and find that it doesn't work. This is because the issue is clealry not the tuning that is wrong, but it would appear to be insufficient signal.

Until Christmas I had a service on Ch22 (although often with some pixellation). Now I have no signal at all on this channel. SO I have no ITV1, Ch4 or Ch5 etc.
Nothing has changed to my aerial, so I'm assuming the transmission has changed. Can anyone confirm this, and if so does anyone know when it will be resolved.
It seem ridiculous that the cessation of analogue id approaching and the digital service has now got worse.

DaveH: On checking the reception predicted for your area I see that although the BBC transmissions are shown as being reasonable ITV certainly isn't, with it being in the category of being variable and remaining that way until April 18th.

The signal will of course still likely be there, but has just dropped to under the reception threshold for your equipment through possibly normal atmospheric changes, so if you haven't tried a re-scan (which will have wiped it from the EPG list) try selecting ITV (albeit the screen might be blank) and go into the TV / boxes tuning menu / signal check screen to see what level its sitting at, noting what's shown, then do the same on BBC to compare them with each other.

You could though just carry out a factory re-set to scrub everything stored then follow that by manually tuning in Mux Ch22, then if ITV comes in OK use the "add channels" or whatever your set calls it to recover the remaining muxes. My reason for suggesting this procedure being that a TV or box will sometimes pick up and lock onto a signal that's manually tuned in, where in many cases it wont during a auto-scan.

If though as would be expected the ITV signal is quite a bit lower than the BBC, then the only way to lift it is by using a booster in line with the aerial socket.

DaveH: Meant to also add, that should you go along the booster route then it would likely become redundant in April 18th when the transmitter concerned moves from 20kw to 200Kw as in theory this will cure numerous peoples problems, except that is possibly for some that's went over the top in upgrading their aerial systems, as they will most likely find it necessary to fit attenuators to rectify signal over load problems.

Re my earlier problems not getting ITV1, Ch4,Ch5, etc when autotuning our new TV in the bedroom.
We took your advice and set the TV up in the other room using the other aerial socket. Doing this we were able to receive these channels. However, back on the wall in the bedroom, it just said 'no signal' for those channels!
Using trial and error, we have discovered that the channels are fine when we use the aerial cable from the other room, but not with the new one we bought. Unfortunately we have had some problems getting an aerial cable to fit behind the TV on the wall, the original one we purchased didn't fit as the connections stuck out too far. We got a new one with right angled connections, but found the ends were wrong, so replaced that with another one with two male ends. However this is now the one that is not working. The whole thing is driving us mad!
It seems to be difficult finding anywhere that sells coax cables with right-angled connections, and we got that one from the internet, but it seems like the qualtity must be duff, so what do we do now?
Bedroom wall has had new wiring put in, plaster re-skimmed and decorated, etc - so we have to have the TV on the wall.
Any advice please, before we through the wretched thing out the window?? Thanks

DianeS: You can get adaptors like this:

TV PAL Female to Male Right Angle Coaxial Adapter 2 Pcs

Be careful *not* to get f-connector (threaded) ones such as this:
