To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

susanuk: This would tend to suggest that we can discount the possibility that it is tuned incorrectly. It's quite possible that the signals from the other transmitter are filtered out so they don't reach your aerial socket, hence your TV won't ever tune to them.

I would ask around with your neighbours. If it is a problem with the aerial system, then (presumably) it is the landlord's responsibility. If you have another aerial socket in your flat (e.g. one in the bedroom), then try that.

The other thing you can check is that there appear to be no defects with the aerial lead you have used from the wall socket. See here for more guidance:

You say that the BBC channels have been unavailable on your TV. Do you have a recorder or some other box(es) connected before the TV? If so, what are the make and model number(s)?

Hi, I'm currently only able to get 54 digital channels on my Bush A632N, missing channels from row D3+4. Any suggestions as to how to retrieve them? Aerial is on the roof and signal booster is plugged in.

Cheers

AlanD: If the signal booster is behind your TV and it has a variable control on it then try reducing it. Have you tried removing the signal booster altogether (assuming that it is accessible)?

I note the slope of the road and the trees in the direction of Black Hill that are hindrance.

Thanks, tried removing it, reattaching it and repeating this a few times and eventually the channels returned. Cheers

pauline gardiner: Its not just so much the carrying out of a re-tune but a factory re-set or first time re-tune that usually rectifies this problem. Another factor you should be aware of considering where you say you are located, is that of your TV / box suffering from signal overloading problems, so outdoor aerials of anything other than simple are out.

Ive an indoor aerial and reception is poor also have a HDTV with freeview channels installed and it's still poor. Obviously I'm thinking I need an aerial on the roof but I'm in community flats and it's difficult to get work done as I'm on a tight budget and housing association won't help at all. Please can you give me some suggestions. Shaw dixon.

Shawn dixon: Although obviously either a loft or outdoor aerial is always the best policy for reliable reception, the fact that you can get results at all at present indicates that you are receiving a reasonable level of signal albeit it erratic, and should this be from Crystal Palace at 8 miles away then it will be vastly better on April 18th when the transmitters involved switch to high power operation.

Indoor (same room) aerials will always suffer interference from movements within the room, but you could well find this to be of a tolerable level come April 18th.
