My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

denise: On back checking your postings I see that the previous made were on Feb 13th under the "Freeview on Emley Moor transmitter" heading, and which I had replied to by making a request that you carry out a couple of checks in order to clarify the situation as the signal level received at your location could be slightly excessive for your receiving equipments tuner, as the symptoms experienced with this type of problem can be exactly the same as what you are complaining about, so maybe you could try the tests etc I requested under the other heading as this will confirm (or otherwise) if this is the cause of your problem.

If you say where you are I might be able to suggest a way round it. I am wondering what transmitter the erroneous signal is coming from; go to the signal strength screen whilst tuned to Anglia and see what UHF channel it is tuned to.

Apologies if I'm in the wrong place with this question. I'm trying to resolve a strange issue on my mum's Freeview dvd-recorder (Sony RDR-HXD870). On the EPG, all the Mux A (I think - ITV3, ITV2+1, 5*, 5USA, CITV, Quest, Bid tv, GOLD, ESPN, QVC) channels are there but there is no program info at all, i.e. no time slots, no names of shows, just an empty line against the channel name. However, the channels *are* there, i.e. you can watch them via the recorder and the signal strength & quality are both over 90%. It's hooked up to a Sony TV and the EPG is fine on the tv but the issue with the dvd-r means she can't set things to record (there's no point trying the manual timer set, trust me!). I'm doubting it's a signal problem so I'm wondering if anyone has heard of a software/firmware issue with this recorder? I've retuned with no ariel lead which cleared the channel list but subsequent retune has not resolved the problem. Any help at all gratefully received. Thanks.

Russ G: As that Sony is an older model you should go into the "other settings" menu and check that "automatic update" had been left set to on, and irrespective of what its at try a manual update that should indicate the software number presently installed, which can then possibly be used for cross checking purposes.
I assume that this device is left on standby all of the time and is never completely switched off? which of course it shouldn't ever be, as if it was not only will the automatic updates have been missed it will take forever to populate the EPG listings.
