To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Sarah: you can easily check if you are suffering the "too strong" weak Rowridge signal in Brighton.
You'll still see BBC South Today (just!)
(The multiplex is down on 24 that causes the problem).
If your box tunes to BBC South East, then I guess you need to look at some of the other comments.

Benfleet

I had an Luxor Top-Up TV 2500 PVR at Norwich which gave excellent service for some years, I then sent it to a friend in Benfleet - SS7 5AQ. Before sending I reset to factory setting as per manual and did a channel scan with the aerial removed.

On receipt the PVR was set up according to the manual and found 100+ channels and seemed OK.
On the second day it started showing the 'aerial icon & X' indicating loss of digital signal at top and in centre of TV screen but whilst showing a perfectly good picture on a digital channel.

The aerial at SS7 is outside on the roof.

As there are problems recording which may be associated I wondered how this can occur as I had understood a digital picture is either received or not at all so how can a 'Loss of signal' icon appear over a good picture please?

Michael: I found the instructions for the device in question here: http://www.topuptv.com/as….pdf

Perhaps the PVR's "loss of signal" icon (detailed at the bottom of page 32) is indicating where signal level is almost low enough for it not to work.

It would appear that there are two main transmitter possibilities at your friend's location: Bluebell Hill and Crystal Palace. A look on Google Streetview shows most are on Crystal Palace with a few on Bluebell Hill.

Based on what I can see (with no experience of the area in question), perhaps your friend's location is getting towards the outer edge of Crystal Palace's current pre-switchover (and therefore low power) digital signals' coverage.

If the aerial is on Bluebell Hill, then the aerial *may* need replacing due to the frequencies used. If the aerial faces Bluebell Hill, then I can elaborate why it may need replacing.

Before any of this, the first thing I would do is confirm that the receiver is tuned to the transmitter to which the aerial faces (and not the other one). If it isn't tuned correctly, then poor reception is to be expected.

Page 29 shows the "Tuning Information" screen. It shows "frequencies" in the form of UHF channel numbers. For Crystal Palace they are 25, 22, 32, 34, 29, 28 and for Bluebell Hill they are 59, 24, 27, 42, 39, 45.

Have tried TV reset, in case anyone asks.

Problem: One TV not picking up the ArqA mux, though seems OK with all other channels.

Set up: distributor amp driven by DC feed from Sky box, feeding 4 TVs in various rooms + 1 PVR. All bar 1 TV receiving all channels.

Local transmitter is Fenton, Staffs. According to this site ArqA is on UHF22.

On Manual Channel Select, choosing UHF22 shows signal strength flashing between zero & about 80% - signal quality always zero. The signal lasts about 3-4 seconds before disappearing. There is no middle state.

The interval between signals appearing varies between about 5 and 60 seconds.

Hormonal thirteen year-old daughter big fan of Dave & Pick TV. Getting big grief. Help!

Adrian: The part I find slightly strange is the fact of you reporting that of the signal strength flashing between 0 and 80% and with the signal quality at zero yet the reception is OK on the other sets.

What I suggest is that you try a test by connecting the TV with the problem directly on to the main aerial feed, which I assume is going into the Sky box? and check the results, as if it doesnt work at all then that could indicate that the signal is too strong for it, as some tuners are more sensitive than others and as such quicker to suffer from overloading.

Anyway give that a try and update on the results, as if overloading is the cause then an attenuator will require to be placed in line with that TV's aerial socket.

I switched on the TV at 1800 GMT today and we some how lost most free view channels.
I am in Leicester and receive off the Waltham transmitter.
Did a full Digital Auto Scan, and found 109 channels. these were then placed all in the wrong order but now I am seeing all the HD channels which were not present before, however I have lost Ch five, ITV1, ITV3, ITV4. I've tried manual retuning on ch 54 as this group is supposed to belong there and scanned up and down and nothing is found. Can anyone suggest what I'm supposed to do this is very odd as the small kitchen TV is still recieving normal channels and the Panasonic DVD recorder is still recieving these channels so Why all of a sudden have I lost them from my LED 40 inch Sony ?

Neil Reynolds: Being unaware of the model number of your Sony TV I cant give precise instructions, but carry out a "factory default" setting or "first time installation" on your Sony followed by manual tuning in of Walthams six muxes, these being Ch61 - 54 - 58(HD) - 29 - 56 - 57
storing whatever received after each channel scan if not done automatically.

This procedure is requested as I suspect that you have picked up some channels from either Sutton Coldfield or Belmont.

Anyone else in Stoke having issues from the Wrekin transmitter today.

I have lost all bbc and ITV channels all day today, I use Windows Media Centre as my tv and checked all connections and rescanned channels.

Interestingly MCE picked up a new set of BBC channels last night on a new frequency 790 if i remember right.

My SamsungTV has lost them as well if I put the ariel into that.

My friend 2 doors down is having the same issues as me so I dont think it is my kit.

Any help would be great
