To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Lesley: Pendle Forest uses only Group A channels, therefore if you use a yagi-type aerial, then a Group A is best as widebands don't have as good a gain on A channels and are less directional.

Yagi aerials are the most common and have a reflector on the back:

Aerials, TV Aerial and Digital Aerial

Log periodics don't have a reflector and are wideband but are much more equally sensitive on all channels.

In an area where no transmitter provides a great signal, what is used and what is available can vary house by house.

Looking around your area on Streetview, most aerials appear to be on Pendle Forest with a few on Skipton, some house having one of each.

Winter Hill is only about 20 degrees anti-clockwise of Pendle Forest and aerials will be horizontal, whereas for Pendle and Skipton they are vertical.

For some reason, Digital UK "thinks" that all but one of Winter Hill's channels isn't good at your location. This, of course, doesn't mean that they are as such systems can never be accurate and should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for that. I had a chat with the aerial man and he came to put a filter on the roof bits. This has stopped the Yorkshire signal coming through and we have mux 2 channels. They seem fine during the day and yet now from tea-time they are dropping for anywhere from 10 - 20 seconds a time.
This makes the programmes un-watchable Im sorry to say.

Are you saying that we could try a winter hill aerial? This is getting to be a bit expensive and time consuming. I really thought digital would mean great pictures and reception.
I will talk to the aerial man again though we are running out of time because this is a holiday let and we have guests coming in from 14 Dec to 5 Jan!

Would it be worth cutting our losses and getting a satelite system installed?
Thanks very much for your help so far.

Hi again,
Interestingly the signal seems much improved in terms of the numbers of times that the signal drops after 9pm, much reduced in how often it happens.

would fitting a filter inside help too?
Thanks and bye for now.

Hi, on Sunday morning I woke up to no ITV, BBC or channel 4 /e4 channels.....basically any channel that isn't a music one no longer works I have reset several times and followed reset on this webpage but nothing makes any difference. Any idea what could be wrong?

Many thanks

Anna

Lesley: Why did the aerial man stop the signal from Yorkshire? Skipton is predicted to offer the best reception overall at your location, subject to there being no local obstructions to block reception. As this is only a PSB only relay, use of a Skipton aerial for BBC, ITV1/2 etc combined with Pendle Forest for the COM muxes would give the best chance of receiving all channels with reliable reception for the main channels. Note that when using two aerials an auto scan would normally tune Pendle Forest into "normal" channel positions, with Skipton in the 800s, unless manual tuning of the desired frequencies is possible.

anna sharpe: It is possible that your receiver has tuned in to frequencies for a different transmitter to the one that your aerial is pointing to, resulting in it trying to receive a signal that is just below the threshold necessary to display the channels. If the aerial is pointing to Winter Hill check that BBC1 is being received on C62 and ITV1 on C59. It might be necessary to manually insert the Winter Hill frequencies after doing the reset procedure, alternatively start the scan with the aerial unplugged, so as to miss out the lower frequencies as used by Haslingden and Manchester Hulme, then plug it back in at about C48 so that the Winter Hill channels are scanned.

Hello again.
Roof aerial on mast with loft mounted distribution amplifier. Aerial pointed at Emley Moor.
Following changeover had an issue with Belmont's increased power and channel changes impacting on Channel 21 - now resolved.

Since changeover however the EPG on my LG 32" TV is very haphazard, will run OK for a day or so and then blank out and begin filling in again.
I have cleared the stored channels and re-tuned no end of times and it makes no effect, with the EPG blanking out a few minutes after populating following a re-tune.
Signal strength and quality are over 90%.
Two other TVs fed by the amplifier are unaffected.
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what is the issue - even if this is an LG tv issue.
Thanks

Dave

We have freeview built into the Tv and since the last channel rescan after the olympics we have had trouble and lost stations, including film4. But the last two weeks we keep losing itv,channel 4 and channel 5. We are based in Doncaster and get most service from Emily moore , i have rescanned the tv so many times i have lost count, deleted the channels and started again and still it says what the channel is what the program is and then says program not tuned.

The Ariel is on the roof, its pretty old but we had no problems at all til they messed with the stations for the olympics. I noticed a lot of you guys have had issues in December and I just wanted to say i don't know what else to do to get 3,4,5 back. Through the day those channels are fine they only act up from 5pm

Rachael: Are you sure that you are receiving ITV1 etc from Emley Moor and not Belmont or possibly Bilsdale?

The signal strength screen should say that it is tuned to C44 for Emley rather than C26 for Belmont or C29 for Bilsdale.

If it is tuned to Belmont or Bilsdale, you should be able to avoid them by having the aerial unplugged for the first 30% of the scan.

Also, Film4 should be tuned to C48.

Dave: When i did the manuel scan it said 44 does that mean Emley Moore? I know when the ariel was installed it was pointed at Emley moore but obviously since the switch over Belmont has got stronger, I will try a scan again with the first 30% with out the ariel plugged in. I will try anything, totally not happy that it kicks out itv at Emmerdale time!
