Hi there, I live in bh21 and have had intermittent problems with film 4 and itv4 all through this switch over period. It has been good for about a month and now is frustratingly poor again. Are they still fiddling or is there something I need to do?

Liz: If your aerial is pointing to the Rowridge transmitter on the Isle of Wight then have your aerial changed so that it is mounted vertically.
Rowridge broadcasts horizontally and vertically and has been doing so since April last year. The horizontal signals are there to work with existing aerials, but some may find vertical polarisation better.
The Commercial (COM) channels which carry the likes of ITV4 and Film4 are strongly vertically. This is because they are effectively restricted horizontally due to other transmitters using the same frequencies. To the west is Stockland Hill which broadcasts only horizontally, so you could be being affected by its signal. Switching your aerial for vertical polarisation will help 'rejection' of the unwanted Stockland signal (if it is present) as well as taking advantage of the strong signals from Rowridge.

Christine Hedges: Presumably your aerial is directed to Crystal Palace, in which case COM6 which carries Film4 and others is on UHF channel 28.
Having lost it you shouldn't have carried out a retune because all that has happened is that the problem is compounded as now your TV isn't tuned. If the signal were to return after retuning then it would probably return anyway, or else it is hovering around the threshold required for your TV to resolve a picture.
What I suggest you do is go to the manual tuning screen and enter/select C28 but do not press the button to scan/add channels, instead wait and see if it gives a reading of strength and quality on that channel. If it does, having noted those readings, then try adding those services/channels.

I retuned today as there was a message at the top of the screen on ch15. I didn't pay much attention to what it said tbh something about film4 moving. So after I retuned ch15 is blank with ??? in the guide, no picture, switching to ch15 from another channel just leaves me on same channel. I've tried retuning twice now, same problem.

Paul: Film4 is still on programme guide 15 but its being broadcast on the PSB2 (ITV1) transmitter, carry out a factory reset - default setting - or first time installation on your TV or box prior to carrying out another auto-tune and this should correct the problem.
