My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Jamie, et al:
I am inclined not to agree. My Freeview PVR is now 7 years old and doing very well thank you. My Sky+ box is now 8 years old and still doing well, my TV set is 11 years old and doing well too! Plus a 14" TV I self-built is still working fine (with the help of a Freeview box) after 22 years!
The cheaper/poorer built equipment may have a useful working life that is shorter than better and more expensive designs, but 10 years would be the normal life expectancy. In my experience in the TV industry (since 1960!) equipment is often changed before the 'end of life' because of the new features being desired, not particularly because of equipment failure. Another factor is often termed 'design obsolescence' where the item is deliberately designed to have a short useful life and is relatively inexpensive.
You only get what you pay for.

MikeP:
You are probably right.
Most equipment that I see failing is generally cheap in the first place.
My experience is more systems than the equipment.

my upstairs JVC tv when re-tuned pulls in "Spotlight" from the southwest instead of "PointsWest".( we live at Cold Ashton facing the Mendip TX.) I retried several times ...disconnecting the aerial until the tune scan is halfway complete...but still same result. We have 4 tv's and this one is the only one stuck on Spotlight!
Advice please!

mary: There are a number of things that can be responsible for your problem, however its not really possible for anyone to assist with queries of this nature without having knowledge of your location, this in the form of a post code or one from nearby. e.g: a shop / post office etc, as this would then enable details of the transmitter covering your area to be checked out.
The other point being, are you on a communal aerial system?

mary: Check your aerial - the tv is getting nothing, so its likely a problem with your system.
