Want to know which transmitters will carry extra Freeview HD?
I am working on integrating this information into UK Free TV. Note there are a number of sites with restricted radiation patterns. This information may take a couple of days to generate coverage maps for.
I have used the "Nominal ERPs" (the power levels most likely to be employed in practice by the licensee).
Taken from Ofcom - Award of the 600 MHz spectrum band - it's bad news for The Wrekin and Sudbury, but good news for:

We have lost HD PROGRAMMES and other similar programmes in that number range. We are told this is because of black mountain mast that is undergoing repair. We have also heard that this is not so an no working is undergoing there. So why when we have had such HD programmes previously have they now gone? What can we do about this?

Please provide a full post code so that we can check the expected reception at your location. You could be using any one of over 1100 transmitters!

Rob:
Please look at the Digital UK Coverage Checker at Coverage Checker - Detailed View which is for your location. Your options are either Crystal Palace or Guildford. The foprmer transmits all eight multiplexes whereas Guildford delivers the six main ones. Your will need a wideband aerail for either of these transmitters. The direction it should be aimed is given on the page mentioned.
By the way, you will not get anything from 'freeserve' as that was a commercial company that was closed many years ago. You actually mean Freeview, I suspect.

Hi, I am served by the Dover transmitter. Gradually over the past couple of years I have lost channels. They do seem to be included in the full list of channels from Dover but I cannot receive. I have an aerial in the loft and it was fitted in 2003. I am wondering whether I need to change my aerial or does it just need "adjusting" somehow. I am on a budget and concerned about getting it replaced by a professional. I see places like Argos sell aerials fairly cheaply. I have not been up in the attic to see what I have! If I need to change the aerial I gather it has to be a wideband now rather than a grouped one? ( yes have been googling but not fully understanding|)
Many thanks

The first thing you should do is to check all your aerial cables and connections. Unplug the coaxial plugs/sockets and then refit (oxidation of the plug contacts is a common cause of the loss of channels you report).
For many years before Freeview, TV aerials were designed to receive only part of the spectrum available as the transmitters were set to use a small group of the available channels, for example, the Crystal Palace transmitter used to use just channels 23, 26, 29 and 32. Hence you used an aerial that matched the 'group' of channels being used, the aerials being designated for group A, B or C/D. Nowadays the main transmitters use 6 channels (usually) but they are often more widely separated so that some use the lower channels as well as a couple of the higher channels and hence the 'old' type of 'grouped' aerial is no longer appropriate. You need to use a wideband aerial, which covers the whole range of channels being used and not just some of them.
Without your full post code we have no idea what the reception conditions are at your location so we cannot provide any more detailed advice. It is often the case that aerials in a loft gove poorer reception than one mounted externally, often on a chmney stack or similar. The tiles and roof structure will absorb some of the signals, especially when it is raining or the roof covered in snow or ice.
As fitting a better aerial is not just a case of putting it in place, I would advise you get a proper contractor to fit and adjust a good wideband aerial. You can look up local aerial contractors on the Confederation of Aerial Installers website at Aerial Installers trade association - Confederation of Aerial Industries

I put your post code into the Digital UK Cioverage Checker and it returned soome useful information for you. Have a look at Coverage Checker - Detailed View which is set for your location.
Scroll down and you will see that Sudbury and Rouncefall are good options with all multiplexes showing green bars, but other transmitters are unreliable of poor at your location.
Sudbury is 51 km away but Rouncefall is just 6 km away. So It would be worth a try for Rouncefall. You will need to have at least a Group B aerial or you could have a wideband type fitted to be sure it will cover all future changes, if any.
