Tracey Wilde: It's not surprising that it is intermittent because the aerial is pointing the wrong way and is vertical rather than horizontal. The thing to do is accept this as a temporary workaround until Fenton comes on air. Once you have it stored don't retune because that may result in loss of it altogether. Only retune when Fenton has come on air (Digital UK doesn't give a date yet.

Thanks Dave. I suspect I've lost it for good then because I can't pick it up at all. Both my Dad and a friend in Stoke-on-Trent have lost it too.
I've had no problem with it until now. No pixallating or anything.
Its only really BBC4 I'll miss. I've got the first episode of HInterland recorded in HD and the second in normal !
Hopefully it won't be long before Fenton comes on air.
Thanks for all your help.

Hi I live at Hornsea HU18 1PQ - we often have re tune our TV as it loses channels, particularly BBC 1 and 2. But now there is no signal at all and we have had no TV all weekend. I have unplugged the roof ariel and plugged it back in and then done a first install on the TV many times but nothing has happened. Do you think we need to upgrade our ariel? would this have an impact? The ariel is about 15 years old. Thanks

yvonne schofield: Although indications are that the area you reside in is not the best for reception the problem you are experiencing could be caused by a fault in your aerial system, for example, such as a bad joint where the coax is terminated into the aerials connector box etc.
As far as your TV losing channels is concerned, I don't think its so much a case of it actually losing the channels but more that they are just dropping down now and again under the threshold level for reception and possibly caused by the suspected aerial problem referred to, therefore I would advise you to try and refrain from continually retuning the set as all you are really achieving is to wipe out everything already stored in the tuners memory.
However, its relatively easy to find out if this situation does apply or not by carrying out a couple of tests, one whilst the signal is OK and the other when it is not (appears to be missing) by using the following procedure.
Whilst the signal is OK go into the TV's set up screen / selecting "tuning menu" / "manual tuning" followed by entering C22 (Belmont's BBC1) into the box but NOT followed by pressing search or scan, as this procedure will allow you to monitor the strength and quality of the signal, make a note of the indications seen for reference purposes (later on) but also paying particular attention if the quality of the signal is seen to dive downwards now and again.
Now that you are armed with this signal strength info, the next time you get a "no signal" warning when BBC1 or 2 is selected then carry out the same test as before to determine if the signal has completely vanished (zero indications) or that it is actually still there but possibly sitting at a level much lower than before, hence why the TV is unable to resolve a picture.
Another point being, any time in the past that your BBC reception was found to have vanished did you make any checks with your neighbours to find out if they were also suffering from the same problem?

Alan Chadwick: If the TV is asking you to plug in an aerial, its obviously your aerial (not the tv) that is the problem. The TV is telling you that it can't get a signal at all.
Your pretty close to Winter Hill, so there shouldn't be any problem with signal strength, etc. Although the aerial seems fine, start by checking each part of the cable, working back from the TV to the aerial. Its likely there is a break or corrosion somewhere. If you have a booster in the roof, etc, make sure that the power supply is working. To be honest though, being so close to the transmitter, you really dont need a booster at all - in fact it can cause problems.

Never had a problem with reception before but yesterday at around 9.30am a complete black-out happened with every channel displaying 'No Signal' message and it's still the same today - the neighbour has the same problem. It's a new (xmas) digital TV and the roof ariel and all cabels look to be as normal. Searched internet for news/info on this but can't find anything for this area. Any ideas/info on why this has happened and ways to get a signal again? Also - is there somewhere you should report this to? Thanks in advace for any help.

I have always enjoyed perfect reception from Bilsdale through a WB aerial pointed at Emley Moor. Returned from 3 week holiday to find no signal on any Bilsdale channel but still perfect (85-96%) signals from Emley Moor. Tried auto/manual resets to no avail. Aerial is at 1095 ft and not obstructed.

Hello, the normal channel line up we receive at full strength from Tacolneston has reduced. It happened about two weeks ago. The aerial set up is fine and all the other multiplexes are performing normally but the one containing Sky News, Dave, Pick etc. has gone or lost so much strength we can no longer receive it. All the others are fine and strong ( mostly max quality).
