Diary of changes to capacity of ArqB, ArqA and SDN multiplexes
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV There are changes going on to the 58 full-Freeview transmitters that have "switched over" to digital only transmission and are carrying the high power digital services.
By a modification to one of the parameters used for broadcast (the "forward error correction") the capacity of the multiplexes increases by 12.5%, which is sufficient for an additional standard-definition channel to be broadcast.
The changes will not allow for an extra channel until all of the transmitters have been changed - the current plan has the last transmitter required for ArqB to have an extra channel upgraded on 23rd November.
In the dairy below, 19 transmitters have an ArqA mode change, and 8 have changes to SDN.

Luton
Since 24 November, I've had a nightmare trying to get my TV to work. I have an Acoustic Solutions TV with inbuilt Freeview which is 3 years old, my aerial was fitted at the same time. My post code is LU4 9AS. The problem I have us that the TV doesn't even come on. There is a "signal bar" at the bittom which is a bright blue when the signal is strong, however, if I actually try to turn on my TV, the signal bar fades and then goes off altogether. All my Neighbours have bought Sky or Virgin packages years ago, as they say this area has always been known as a poor reception area and they got fed up with it. I can't afford to pay out for a monthly service and neither do I think that's the answer! Does anyone have any tips on how to improve things before I tell the BBC I refuse to pay for my TV license, since I can't watch my TV anyway?

Christiane Hennecke: Well the reception predictor indicates that you should able to have good reception from both the local Luton transmitter as well as Sandy Heath (Anglia), so its a case of where you are receiving from as well as the direction your aerial is pointing.
Have a look at the aerial, and if the elements are seen to be vertical (running from top to bottom) then its the Luton transmitter, as for Sandy they require to be positioned horizontally.
Although your neighbours say that reception has always been bad in the area and something which cannot be totally discounted, but this might be referring to before Sandy went over to high power operation.
Another way to determine where you are receiving from is by selecting BBC1 and checking the signal strength in your TV's signal check screen, noting the channel number seen associated with the reading, if you see Ch50 its Luton whereas if Sandy it should be Ch27. You can also make this check on ITV being Ch59 from Luton and with Ch24 being seen if from Sandy.
I do have suspicions about what you report regarding your TV, but try these tests anyway.
