My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Hi. I am near Kingston Bagpuize and even though we have a digital aerial on the chimney stack plus a booster reception is v poor and we seem to predominantly get best reception on mux A. The tv that I wish to get reception is a LCD 32 hd free view new tv so I am guessing that I need a new aerial but which one to buy. What about whether an in attic will suffice. Thanks.

Tim: Could you supply your postcode so a check can be made of available signals in your area? Which transmitter is your aerial pointing to? Oxford is most likely, but Crystal Palace, Hannington or even Mendip might have been used for your existing aerial.

Derby
A question to KMJ Derby or anyone. I have just purchased my 3rd freeview box. The first a Bush was incompatable. The second Hitachi was brilliant but with a month the hard disc failed. I am now using a Humax. No problems exept it does not give you a choice of regions and has gone for W Midlands transmitter although E Midlands is the stronger I think? I have no prob with this as the local new can be watched in the 800 channel group. But why W Mids??? Cheers

Glenn: The excellent sensitivity of Humax boxes tuners means that they will lock onto the first signal they receive of sufficient strength as they scan up the channels, this meaning that any station using Mux Channels lower than Waltham will be stored first, and in your case its likely to be Sutton Coldfield's BBC1 on Mux Ch43 being stored before Waltham's BBC on Mux Ch61, this being pushed up into the 800 ranges, likewise Sutton Coldfield's ITV1 on Mux Ch46 stored before Waltham's ITV1 on Mux Ch54, this receiving similar treatment to BBC1 and being allocated up to the 800 ranges.
The only way to get over the problem is to scrub everything stored, then manually tune in the two Mux channels mentioned (Mux Ch61 & Mux Ch54) storing results after each scan, then use the find other channels (or whatever its called on your model) to search for the remaining multiplexes.

Jb 38 Thank you for this. Why oh why do they make things so frustratingly difficult when everything was working great before the switchover...I think they call it progress!!

I have rescanned my panasonic digital telly this morming and I've lost everythin on the second frequency, ie ITV1, Channel 4, channel 5 etc - I believe this is due to single frequency interference? I have re tuned the telly without the arial in and then with the arial in about 10 times now and I can't get them back - they worked perfectly before - please help!

karen: I see its stated that Sutton Coldfield is liable to interruption, so just in case this is the problem I would try scanning later on in the day, that is unless you can possibly verify from a neighbour that ITV1 etc is OK with them.
If it is, then with you being only 12 miles away from Sutton Coldfield its possible that you are receiving a signal that's on the verges of being too powerful, as this can cause blocking with sensitive tuners such as is used on Panasonic's, this not necessarily happening on all channels.
Just purely for a test, if you have access to a set top aerial try another scan using that, if you then receive ITV put the normal aerial back in again and see if it vanishes, if it does then you will require to purchase a simple attenuator to place in line with the sets aerial socket.
This said taking it that you do not have any form of aerial booster fitted, as if you do it must be removed, this making an attenuator unnecessary.
