To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

The aerial is on the roof. Lived in house about six months with an excellent reception until last weekend, when the signal started to come and then go for short periods of time before working properly again. Then on Thursday lost the signal altogether for 24 hours before it came back for a few hours and then failed again on Friday night. Still not back so we have no channels whatsoever. Did reset procedure to no avail. The aerial (unlike most others in the vicinity appears to point to the Mendips (most point towards Oxford) although we seem to get news from the 'South' region on BBC1 and not the 'West' as I would have expected. Any ideas what could be the problem?

David Taylor: The fact that you have been watching BBC South instead of BBC West means that you haven't been tuned to the signal from Mendip. Based on the Digital UK predictor and your observations it would seem likely that it is picking up Oxford.

There might not be a straightforward fix and the way to proceed probably depends on the design of your receiver. Some are better than others with regards manual tuning.

If possible, you need to wipe all the existing tuned channels and then manually tune in the five Mendip multiplexes (six if you have HD).

If you would like some help with this, then post the make and model of the device and I'll see if I can find the instructions for it so as to guide you as to what you need to do.

I have a Freeview Sony Bravia + a Humax recorder. Both units sit next to each other, the tv has a full channel listing the Humax doesn't.
I have done the standard reset, take aerial out retune,replace and retune etc.. This doesn't replace the missing channels which are listed below. Everything was listed correctly until about a week ago. The aerial is in the loft (i.e. not outside)
Missing: ITV1/CH4/CH5/ITV2/CH4+1/More4/E4/ITV=1

Grateful for any advice. Thank you

Just a quick question, if I may,I have a philips digibox, and a portable tv (which doesn't have a scart connector,prior to switch-off I was getting freeview on the TV.
after switch-off....nothing.
Question,does a digi box only route a RF signal through into the analogue receiver? or should it convert the Dtv signal to analogue rf?

thanks for any replies...
Bob

Bob: Any device whether Satellite or terrestrial Freeview that has an RF output facility to feed another TV is always in analogue.

I don't quite understand though what you mean by nothing after switchover, as if the Philips boxes RF output was feeding its analogue output to the portable TV then this would not change, so are you meaning that the Philips box isn't receiving Freeview now? and should this be the case then maybe you could mention the model of the box in question to enable aspects of its specification to be checked upon.

Bob: Just a point of clarification, my initial "RF output to feed another TV" statement means RF modulator output facility.

Hi
Following my previous post about a missing Yesterday, Film4 and all other channels on mux 63, have discovered that the TV in the lounge will pick these up while my Panasonic DMR-BWT700 Blu ray DVD and hard disk recorder is in standby, but as soon as it is turned on, the TV screen shows 'no signal' on all these channels on 63. DVD box will not pick up channels on 63 at all. Suspect RF channel conflict from DVD box to TV but can find no way of changing this in any menu setting. Any suggestions? CO16 0BD.

Nick: The manual for your BTW700 doesn't indicate that there is any anything of an RF nature (e.g: modulator) in the DVD that can cause a clash with an incoming channel, this making me suspect that Ch63 which for many people is notoriously difficult to pick up, is only being received and no more by yourself but is dipping under the reception threshold when you activate the DVD.

To test if this is applying, carry out a signal strength check on your TV whilst viewing something on Ch63 then do the same after switching the DVD on, as even although the TV will have a blank screen the signal level will still be indicated in the level checking menu.

Before you do that though, you could maybe try another test to eliminate the possibility of interference radiating from the DVD itself killing the signal, so once again whilst viewing the blank screen on the TV pull the aerial lead out of the DVD but leave it (the lead) lying across the top of (or near to) the DVD casing, if the TV comes back on its not interference. If though you are using the aerial through the DVD to feed the TV, just link the two leads (in / out) together for the test.

You haven't actually mentioned the method anything about your aerial feed arrangements to the TV or the DVD, but it might end up that you will require to split the aerial via a two way powered splitter with individual feeds to each device, as that's the only way of guaranteeing that each gets the same level of signal.

Anyway, if you could give an update on the tests further advice can be given.

Michael J Gunnill: I would try manually tuning in the missing multiplex first. If your aerial is on Crystal Palace, it is C22.
