My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

I can't understand why failure was so sudden. We were watching quest then it just suddenly went off and tv reported "no signal". I think we were left with mixes 1 and 2 and no others.
I switched on the HDD recorder we have (which previously had a full set of freeview programs - all of them including the rabbit etc) and it was reporting that it had zero channels. It has been switched off for a few weeks (noisy fan) but this does not normally cause an issue. I did a re-tune and that was when I found I could get some (I think mix 1 and 2) channels only. I seemed to get all BBC radio too. Both our TV's have built in freeview.

Ross Duncan: You need to see which part of the system are common to everything, perhaps you have a booster that's blown a fuse?

Colin: It is very hard to help you without your postcode. You should find Single frequency interference | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice . No one should need to get a new aerial to watch the BBC channels, they are always allocated to "in group" frequencies.
If you cancel your payment and you continue to operate your TV, you will be breaking the law.

Hi - I live in an AB23 postcode area and use freeview (both built into Panasonic TV and also via an old Setanta DTR) - there have been minor hiccups since Sept 2010, but generally all well. Little TV as well in kids room with old freeview box also.
Last Monday (14th)I came home from work to find I only had BBC1,2, ITV1, 4,5, Beeb3 and 4, Ch4+1 More 4, E4, STV+1 (where did that come from??), CBBC, Cbeebs - basically Mux A, C and D all gone - why??
Stock answer from DigitalTV is "it must be your aerial" (roof mounted, external)- I dont believe that for a moment since all was well on Sunday. Durris is having issues and noted re June 15th, but do I gamble on purchase of Freesat/Sky now and ditch Freeview, or wait it out until 15/6 and hope A, C and D come back? Problem is the same on all TVs in the house - neighbours cant help as all on Sky.
Usual factory reset of all boxes tried and failed.
I'm convinced Murdoch is behind all this, sitting in a hollowed out volcano like Dr Evil, and using his "laser" to randomly screw up Freeview signals around the country - then we all rush out and have to buy SKY.
On the upside, I can finish from 101 in 3 darts with my eyes shut now as i have so much time to practice!!!
Joking aside, any clues...?? Much appreciated and a great forum...

Graham: OK. The news here isn't good.
Your currently predicted to get the PSB multiplexes with excellent reception, but your COM receptions are predicted to be OK for COM4 and COM5 and poor for COM6.
However... the predictions show that this will only be the case for the near future, when on 15th June 2011 the COMs change from C52+, C41 and C51- to C23, C26 and C29 your reception will actually get worse, and move to "variable" as 2012 and 2013 move on.
You will continue with the PSB "Freeview Light" channels OK for the foreseeable future.
If you would like to avoid buying from "Dr Evil", then Freesat (rather than fSfS) is a good option. You can get excellent Freesat+HD equipment today.
A top-notch aerial is, as you identified, a gamble.

Firstly, your help is very much appreciated. I can now make decisions based on facts rather than guesswork.
Sky (with Sports) is going to cost me £480 p.a in my first year, and yep, you guessed it, Freesat will cost almost exactly the same in year 1 once I have paid for the installtion, freesat recorder boxes, dish, HD etc. After year 1 Freesat starts paying for itself, but poorer channel selection v. Sky - my choice to make though.
Does the switchover represent progress? For me, clearly not when I now have to fork out upwards of £500 from the kids college fund.
This is a national disgrace.
I would still be interested to know how this happened to me though - what physically occurred on Sun night/Mon morning for this to occur? Could the solar activity this week be playing its part...??
I can take the ultimate option and just forget TV altogether - in which case my darts will improve to the extent I'll win the PDC by the end of the year - only shame will be my family won't be able to watch the Sky coverage.
Again, a great forum and thanks for you help.

Graham: I read this in the FT yesterday - FT.com / Arts / Film & Television - Can we have our ball back? :
You may have noticed that companies of this type do not make it easy for subscribers to resign. There is a huge amount of inertia. "Give me a fucking name on a direct debit and it's mine for life," said Chisholm. There had to be goodies in the shop window to bring in the direct debits. Dave Hill, head of Sky Sports, said in 1991: "Sport as drama and sport as soap opera - that's what people want to watch on television".
I'm afraid it isn't in any way "a national disgrace". You are in a very rare position to have your digital signals not get considerably better. No consolation to your good self, of course, but the guarantees are around the provision of the public service multiplexes.
I'm not sure I have said look at Freeview reception has changed? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice ?
