To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

We live in the Eve Hill area of Dudley with a clear view to the Wrekin transmitter. We have purchased a new digital areial and have been able to recieve multiplexes 1, 2, A, B and D fine for a number of years however of around last week for some reason we are now only able to get 1 and A with all other channels showing no signal, have reset box and added channels again and now the channels have deleted completly. Why can we no longer receive these channels, any ideas to solutions or should we just wait till the 20th of April or will that make no difference either?

For the past week or so any BBC channel selected switches to BBC1 after a few seconds. (Non-BBC channels are unaffected.) I receive signals from the Mendip transmitter via a roof aerial. The TV is a Panasonic TX-28DT30. Any ideas why this is happening?

My Nan has got a similar problem with no longer having a signal for ITV3, 5* and Five USA. We did a retune on her idTV, did the unplug mains, aerial etc..then intall with no aerial and then reconnect arial etc... no luck! Her aerial in off a chimney stack with no blockages of trees etc.. and was installed by a professional last year, I believ it is a high gain one. Was bought for the purpose of freeview as her old one was past it at over 30yrs. Incidentally her other set top box has also lost the same channels on retune.
Any ideas? I have read that ITV and Channel 5 when analogue is switched off on 20th April will add more digital channels...will they return then?

Kate: Have you lost BBC TWO on analogue, if so then you are using the Ridge Hill transmitter. You might want to wait until next week before you change anything.

Hi Brian. yes my nan lost BBC2 on the analogue and we did the retune after she said it went. We have it on the idTV and the set top box on the other tv. I thought it would be Ridge Hill as it is not very far away from where she is and reception has always been good on Analogue and on Digital before the switchover especiallysince we got her a better aerial.
I did wonder if we just leave it until the next switchover as I had read about the itv channels and 5 channels transmitting more after then. Fingers crossed! Hope it doesnt mean a wideband upgrade as she only had the current aerial last year.
thanks for helping.

Kate: Yes, at Ridge Hill next week the Freeview power increases from 2,000W (average) to 15,000W, 7 times stronger. Freeview on Ridge Hill TV transmitter | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice for more.
