To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

I'm in Berkshire, postcode RG1. In the last few days I have "lost" Freeview channels BBC4 and Film4 after a scheduled rescan. I have also noticed that there is bad reception on some ITV channels and 5. I have tried resetting and rescanning but there's no change. I had a new roof aerial installed last summer and had no problems until now.

I don't seem to have had any response to my query that I posted a while ago.......Hi, since last week I've been missing multiplex 2 and A. I've tried all sorts and everything recommended on here. I've got a roof aerial and my postcode is LE5 1WA. Is this something that is going to be temporary? Thanks James

James O'Connell: If you are receiving signals from the Waltham transmitter The frequency for Mux2 recently changed to C31 and MuxA changed to C29.This was to avoid co-channel interference problems for viewers in the overlap area with The Wrekin after switchover on that transmitter.To restore reception you need to do a factory reset to clear the channel list and remove all memory of the missing muxes on their former frequencies.Then do a rescan or enter the frequencies manually for the Waltham transmitter.The Digital UK postcode checker predicts good reception for all six muxes at your location.

I have recently reverted to using a HUMAX Freeview box as my DVD recorder with built-in Freeview has died. I am reminded of a problem which I suffered when I used the HUMAX box before (a couple of years ago) ie no sound on BBC-3 or BBC-4. It has been intermittent, but it's certainly happening now! Other channels = fine. Aerial is roof-mounted and pointing at Tacolneston. An explanation would be welcome, thanks!

I don't know why my post of yesterday got the heading "My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong": all I want to know is why I sometimes (most times?) get no sound on BBC3 and BBC4.

Andy Parrett: Unless there's a bug on the website, I assume this is the page on which the comment box you entered the comment appeared.

As for why you get no sound on these channels, I would have thought the problem would affect more than just these channels. You're most likely to be using the Tacolneston transmitter, to the north-east, which has not yet switched over. BBC Three is carried on multiplex 1, and BBC Four on multiplex B. Mux 1 also carries BBC One and BBC Two among others.

Is there also some picture break-up along with the sound problems? That would point to a general reception problem.

It's possible that your aerial points west to Sandy Heath, which - now it has switched over - carries all these channels on the BBC A multiplex. It's expected to be unreliable, far less reliable than from Tacolneston. Sudbury, to the south-east, is also a possibility but again it's expected to be less reliable.

Tacolneston does use quite high frequencies, and many boxes will store the first version of the transmissions that they find. It's possible that after Sandy Heath switched over, if you retuned (or your box has an automatic retune feature) that it has decided to store weak fringe reception from Sandy Heath, rather than the strong signals from Tacolneston. Check to see whether better versions are stored in the 800s, or elsewhere, and check whether the BBC channels are shown as using UHF C27 (Sandy Heath), C49 (Sudbury) or C63 (Tacolneston). See Digital Region Overlap for suggestions on how to resolve this.

My Mum has a tv with built in freeview. Since switchover in April she has lost multiplex A plus the bbc red button functionality. Previously all was working ok. I have carried out a factory reset per the above instructions and retuned the tv. I can see the programme information for the channels eg itv3 but no picture instead we have a weak or poor signal screen message. Will she need to change her ariel?
Thanks

Hi,

I seem to have lost two muxes since last weekend (the one with all the freeview hd channels and the one with 5* and 5USA).

I am in GU10 and have tried full rescans etc to no avail.

Any other suggestions would be welcome!
