Mike James: The vertical element of the Commercial from was only introduced on 18th April. The vertical element of the Public Service channels was introduced at on 7th and 21st March.

So it's probably safe to say that it will be horizontal.

Whilst it is the case that yagi aerials are less sensitive at Group A channels, I don't see this being a potential issue here though. If it worked before switchover, then it should be sufficient to pick up signals now.

I believe that the likely issue is the marked difference in strength of the Commercial channels with respect to the Public Service ones. Plus possible from of course.

Heya. We just got a new Samsung UED8000 tv and Samsung BD Player. They both have + on them. The Tv is picking up Film4 fine but the BD player is not picking up Film4 at all with multiple auto and manual retunes. This sounds like a hardware problem but I was wondering whether the / is having anything to do with it, and if a change could fix this. Our post code is C010 9AP. Anything you guys can think of with your experience would be extremely helpful.

Steven: Assuming you are receiving from , which would seem the most likely, then you should be aware that the three Commercial multiplexes are on low until 27th June when a retune will be necessary as they each change channel.

I suggest that your problem could be the difference between the high power (Public Service) and the Commercial ones.

The high power ones probably act to desensitise your thus making it less sensitive when attempting to pick up the weaker ones. Different equipment has different tolerances.

Until 27th June, you "may" be able to restore Film 4 (and others on ArqB which is on until then) by placing an attenuator in line with the incoming aerial lead. The objective being to reduce the level of the high power signals so as to increase the sensitivity of the receiver, but in so doing you will be reducing the level of the low power signals as well. You would be looking for a sweet spot where all channels work. There is no guarantee that you will get to such a solution as obviously you may end up attenuating the weak ones too much for them not to work.

You can pick up a variable attenuator (usually 20dB) online for around £3 or £4.

I have Film4 and the rest but it and ITV4 in particular are having problems. It's been the way since the changeover in 2011 and only briefly sorted itself out when the thing went full power in April.
It's skipping, sometimes badly but always when I try recording on it.
I have an Alba ALDTR160 box (had it 3-4 years). I specify that as despite several retunes, some first-time resets and other following of info I've found about here it's not changed much.
My mine beef simply is recording. 's fine and depending on what happens I'm likely to get a new box.

My very good (Humax) PVR has received good on almost all (including HD) until a week ago when it became very very poor on "Film 4" and "Yesterday", lost Sky News altogether and is very shaky on ITV4 as well as a couple of the music channels. Rutuning (I've tried switching off, retuning again and again;no) has given me 54 tv channels or 96 !!! If the latter most are "unavailable" I am only annoyed about losing Film4 and Sky News. Help. Nothing has changed in the , area or otherwise

kc: Its not really possible to offer assistance unless a persons location is known, this in the form of a post code or one from nearby, as only then can the serving the area be known as well as being able to assess the levels expected from it at the persons location.

My postcode is CO9 4JE. I have recently lost Film4 , ITV4 and others. I have tried a manual tune and retune. Manual does not go down to 15 only 21. Any advice, please

Richard: You're the third person to my knowledge that has reported an issue over the last few days about ArqB from . This suggests that some (perhaps slight) change has been made at the .

This and the other Commercial ones have been running on very low since last year. This one in particular has been difficult to receive for many people, although these have tended to be around the east and south of the transmitter (judging by reports on here).

There will be a retune on 27th of this month when these multiplexes will finally go on full power.

The manual tuning is asking for a UHF number, these being from 21 to 69. These are equivalent to the on which the are carried. Film 4 is on "logical channel number" 15 which is the number you key in to view it.

It the moment these services are on UHF channel 63. These are all one , known as a multiplex. Hence if you can pick it up, when you manually tune to , it would add all that this multiplex carries.

Hi I was trying to watch the French open on my tv in area CO6 but realised I had no ITV4 - is this simply because of the ? Will it be resolved by June 27th when I will be asked to retune?

I thought I used to have it, so I was somewhat surprised when looking for it specifically, that I could not find it on 24 or 117, which my parents in CO2 have. They cannot receive Yesterday on their tv and nor can I.
Please me if you can.

Jane Macaulay: are carried in groups known as multiplexes. You are missing "ArqB" aka COM6.

Yesterday, Film 4 and ITV4 are all carried on COM6.

The three COM multiplexes have been on very low since last year. The frequencies they use now are temporary until the perminant ones become available. Once the transmitters in Kent complete switch over on 27th of this month, the frequencies that is due to use for its COMs will be available for use.
