Why are the Freeview channels in the Llandrindod area of Wales so BBC orientated? 25 of the 33 channels available are BBC channels (over 75%).

Machynlleth
My local repeater (Machynlleth) used to be 20watts output using analogue but is now 4watts with digital, why is this? And would an increase in power help people like me who are outside the current footprint?

Rob Goodall: Yes, the drop of 7dB is standard over all the UK transmitters.
Less signal power is required for the digital services to provide the same coverage area as the analogue ones had.
There was never any intention for additional homes to be covered at switchover. You need to use Freesat instead of Freeview.

Briantist: Thanks, it's a shame that having moved into the area all my expensive existing terrestrial equipment (PVR, HD boxes)are scrap! Thanks for the quick and helpful reply though. Rob

there is a rumour that the machynLleth transmitter is going to be upgraded in the first quarter of 2013 so that the area will have all the freeview channels, is this true and if so when? and if not why not?

speake: A rumour - from who, exactly? Unless you heard it from Ofcom, the broadcasters or the owners of the transmitters (Arquiva) it's probably BS.
If one, or even some of the 1,000+ relay transmitters were going to be upgraded, a tiny 4 Watt transmitter covering 1,200 homes is going to be well down on the list of priorities for the commercial broadcasters to add 3 additional multiplexes at considerable cost.

speake: In specific response to your final question "if not why not?", the answer is "because it is only a rumour!".
Maybe if locals in the area would like to pay for it (including ongoing costs for upkeep), then they might do it.
