d.t.marasco: Hi. Please can you have a look at the Freeview intermittent interference | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice - but also not the "Transmitter engineering" faults listed here.

bev hurley: Never.

The Commercial broadcasters (those that don't transmit from Mynydd Machen) achieve coverage of 90% of the population from 81 of the largest transmitters (largest by viewer population). For them to transmit from the other 1,000 plus relays including Mynydd Machen would roughly double their transmission costs whilst only adding a potential 8.5% of the population to their viewer bases. As they operate purely for profit, they wish to acquire as many viewers as possible for least cost which is what they do.

Unless you are in a spot where you can receive the Commercial channels from a full-service transmitter, then you ain't gonna get them. In some parts of South Wales Mendip can be received. If this is possible at your location you may therefore be able to receive the Commercial channels, either by using a separate aerial and separate set-top box or by combining an aerial on Mendip with one on Mynydd Machen. What can be received and can't be received in your area varies over small distances because of the terrain.

What has happened to the Mynydd Machen Channel 23 / BBCA Multiplex this morning? All programs on this multiplex are "dead".
Have the engineers forgotten to turn it back on after their overnight engineering work?

Clive: Yep, I'm in the RISCA area, but luckily I also have FreeSAT, so that's giving me a service. Wake up engineers - please!

Mynydd Machen Channel 29 ?
Can anyone tell me what has become of the BBCB Multiplex (BBC One HD, BBC HD ITV1 HD etc.) on Mynydd Machen Channel 29?
I used to receive the channel 29 multiplex until around the time of the "re-tune" on 17 October. I've not been able to receive it since that date, maybe earlier as I don't watch HD very often.
I receive channels 23 and 26 from Mynydd Machen perfectly (100% signal 100% quality) but my (full HD) TV shows no signal at all on channel 29.

the problem with the mynydd machen transmitter is the design of the transmitting aerial,if you live close and low down the signal is poor, the further away you are the signal improves.i live about two and a half miles away line of sight in risca on a hill when we have the slightest high pressure i get picture breakup or no signal due to interference from stockland hill.that is with the correct group aerial mounted vertical and pointing at the mast.
