Ash: No, the only change is that the Derby relay will get a third frequency for Freeview HD, and that won't be at switchover, but in October 2011.
Derby is unsuitable for a local TV service as it on the fringe of several transmitters, and the local relay used to just provide BBC One and ITV1 East Midlands services to supplement the West Midlands service from Sutton Coldfield.

Briantist: The main block had been a warehouse, the admin block and OB garage was built in the mid 60s , studio 5 was built much later and used for THE TUBE. I went round it shortly after it closed and it was sad to see. It all stripped out, though it was structurally sound. it would have been ideal for a base for a Newcastle TV station.

Peter D: Honestly, it would have not made an ideal base. You simply don't need the space you did in the 1980s to make local TV. What fitted into a room them you can get as a mobile phone app today.
You can run, and given the finances of local TV, they will be running, these services from a normal office. There is low power lighting, so no need for masses of coolig plant. Cameras are light and tiny. You rub an "OB" using standard technology.
A "lagacy" studio is a financial burden that would stop local TV beforeit even started.

I remeber asking specifically about "Studio 5" and I was told that it most certainly was not "structurally sound".

I was suggesting that your informant as to the soundness might not have been wholly impartial!

Steve P: The people I spoke to all worked for the company, and they were very disappointed that the buildings were unusable.

Brian,i see that GRIMSBY has been allocated for alocal tv service, should that cover all of north lincolnshire as well?

Des Collier: No, the map above shows Grimsby and the coast from Cleathorps to Immingham. The idea with these services is that they focus on a small area, due to the nature of the geographical interleave.
