Transmitter engineering: Live in Ystalyfera please can you give me an idea as to how long engineering works will take. Do I have to retune or will reception just return?

Mrs Jackson: Do not retune when the transmitter is off the air. This would not restore the service and if you remove the channels from your channel list you will not know when the transmitter is back on air. The BBC are aware of the problem, but no time is given for resumption of service.

Peter Lewis: I can't answer your question as to how long it might be, but try looking in your 800s for other services. You might be lucky and be able to get Pontardawe (indeed your receiver might have stored them on logical channel number 800 and above) which is roughly in the same direction.

My freeview signal has been disrupted and so has my mums, this has come without warning and I have retuned, doing this lost me the remainder of the channels, there is something going on with the Ystalyfera transmitter be it the 4G effect on The main Carmel transmitter or something else. My postcode is SA9 2HU and my mothers is SA9 2ES, where do I get info for transferring to freesat for free also only just had TalkTalk installed this is on a contract but now does not have any channels

sean lynch: Which channels are you referring to?

Like the other small relays, Ystalyfera only carries Public Service (PSB) channels.

If you were ever, or are still, picking up any of the Commercial (COM) channels then you must be receiving them from another transmitter. This probably means that your reception is off-beam of the aerial and therefore that it is being used for receiving signals that it wasn't installed for, hence reception may be hit and miss.

See here for a list of Freeview services:

DTG :: DTT Services by Multiplex

If you are to receive the full complement of channels then Kilvey Hill looks to be your only possibility, if at all (I emphasise the "if").

sean lynch: If any of the receivers have manual tuning on then try using it to tune to Kilvey Hill's COM channels:

COM4 - ITV3 etc - C25
COM5 - Pick TV etc - C22
COM6 - Film4 etc - C28

Thanks for all your helpful comments, but the channels came back yesterday on their own for my mum as I had told her not to retune and wait. I have retuned mine using a better aerial and now have a better range of channels than I was getting.
The fact remains that the service was distrupted by something regardless of the official line.

R.H.Richards: Have you re-tuned since Wednesday (22nd May 2013)? The frequency of mux BBCA changed to C39 on that date.
