Bacup
Yet again the bacup transmitter dies a death. Its about time they put their hands in their pockets and upgraded it to something more reliable and improve the woeful second rate selection of channels we currently receive (do we really need a gay and a straight dating channel and the yawnsome parliament channel?) We suffered years of only receiving four channels and sporadic outages often for half a day at a time and since the digital switchover frankly it hasn't improved. Where do I apply for a rebate against my TV license?

Phil: Your are not entitled to a rebate.

Phil: It's likely that the problem is either the Bacup transmitter's reception of signals from Winter Hill - but there were no reported problems there - or the power supply arrangements.
Write a complaint to the BBC by going to BBC - Reception problems and following the wizard through. Do it every time the service fails, I'm not certain they have any remote monitoring of the site.
You are very close to the transmitter and it transmits at full power in your direction. There is a chance that you could have too much signal and this causes picture break-up when there is no problem at the transmitter. It's hard to give anything to look for because there is no consistency among different Freeview boxes as to how they show the signal level, and how it's calibrated.
If you had a problem and this page, and the BBC page, don't show a problem at that time, try adding an attenuator to reduce the signal levels. (RG47SH)
