ian from notts: As long as you are northeast of the transmitter (which you clearly are) you should be getting a full-power signal from the transmitter.

Which of course leads to the thoughts about Freeview signals: too much of a good thing is bad for you | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice ...

this is my first experiance of the signal being to strong at first source?
was going back to try that as i wasnt sure about work on transmitter on my first visit?
could the strong signals cause a quatro lnb on a dish to fail if they go to the same distributter as this has also stopped working? longshot?
cheers for helping

ian from notts: It could be, after a decade or so of the digital signals being weak, it does seem somewhat unusual when they are suddenly too strong.

I think you might be right about the second suggestion being a longshot.

SOME OF MY BBC1 & ITV PROGRAMS HAVE A SPEECH IN THE BACKGROUND FOR BLIND PEOPLE,HOW TO I GET RID OF IT.
THE RECEPTION IS GOOD OFF BELPER RELAY BUT THE AMOUNT OF PROGRAMS RECEIVED COMPARED WITH VIEWERS OFF WALTHAM MAIN TRANSMITTER IS VERY POOR.

Dave Saunders: Not sure about getting rid of the speech descriptions, but the reason that you don't get all the channels from Belper is because the Commercial (COM) broadcasters don't wish to transmit from it. They broadcast from about 80 of the largest (by viewer population) transmitters in the country and cover 90% of the population. For a more in-depth explanation, see here:

Will there ever be more services on the Freeview Light transmitters? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice

You appear to be in an area served by Sutton Coldfield which carries the COM channels, although it carries West Midlands regional programming instead of East Midlands which Belper broadcasts (as a relay of Waltham). You could have a second aerial fitted for Sutton Coldfield to allow reception of the COMs. Not sure how this might work (or not as the case may be) with recording equipment though.

Dave Sanders: On my Humax PVR-9200T, the Audio Description appears as a separate soundtrack. You have to press the Soundtracks button and select the other option. It seems to remember this setting for each channel.

Boxes that properly support Audio Description have an 'AD' button on the remote. If yours does, just press that to turn it off.
