I live in the Manchester area in what I thought was a good signal area. I recently bought a new Freeview HD Panasonic receiver but the HD signal is very weak (Strength 1 according to the receiver). I read somewhere that the HD signal is not yet at full strength in this area. Is this correct? I also cannot receive the low strength local Channel M broadcasts which makes me think that my aerial might need replacing as it's over 25 years old.

Ian Jones: All Freeview HD signals are at full strength on switched-over transmitters. Channel M is on very low power and only available in a limited area.
If your aerial is very old, it certainly may need replacing.

I had a rooftop aerial installed and a new set top box Philips DTR (201/220/221/22 all on the instruction leaflet). Since installing and retuning TV has worked pretty well except for the fact that I get very occasional picture disappearing with text about program appearing and then everything back to normal. Also I sometimes get a streak appearing on the picture. Also there is often a background hum which comes and goes. I have looked at 'Freeview intermittent interference' page and I don't think it's induction interference or mobile phone interference.

Is there anywhere I can find out when additional channels will be available on my local transmitter ? Currently we get 18 TV channels via the Box transmitter which relays from Mendip - would be nice to know if this is going to change anytime soon
thanks

Ian: There are no plans to include transmission of the COM muxes on local relay transmitters. To do so would more than double the cost of transmitting these muxes and given the small number of extra viewers served the mux owners do not consider that to be cost effective.
