Will Buxton ever receive additional channels,eg Five USA,5* ITV3 ITV4 FILM4
link to this comment |
Robert: Probably not because the Commercial broadcasters have opted to transmit from about 80 sites nationwide thereby achieving 90% coverage of the population.
The Commercial operators were invited to increase their coverage, but declined. There are around 1000 or so small relay transmitters including Buxton. For the Commercial operators to broadcast from them would roughly double their transmission costs.

I live in New Mills and noticed last night other channels appeared in my EPG but no signal, to name a few included 5*, 5+1, The Zone, QVC, G.O.L.D., Quest etc. I'll have to try retuning tonight and see what happens. I'm on Birch Vale transmitter.

Andy: If you point an aerial (group c/d preferably) to Winter Hill you might find that you are in range for reception of all muxes. Have any of your neighbours got their aerials pointing NW, with rods set horizontal?

Anyone any news on the Buxton transmitter? I cannot find anything anywhere, and it has now been down for a day and a half.
link to this comment |
Jemma: I don't know whether you know, but there have been power failures in the area over the last few days due to the weather.
This report, posted at 0721 this morning, says that power has been restored to all affected areas in Derbyshire:
BBC News - Power restored across Derbyshire following snow storm
Give the main BBC Derby switchboard a ring (01332 361111) and see if anyone knows when it might be back on. Then post on here to let others know.

Have called the Derby number, they do not know when it will be back on. Lady seemed surprised there was a fault. She offered to ask engineer but we got cut off and when I rang back she said they hadn't been notified when it will be back on.

The transmitter network is operated by Arqiva. On its contact page there is a link to click if you have problems with reception:
Contact Us - Corporate Arqiva
However, this simply provides links and phone numbers for the broadcasters!
As Arqiva is the company responsible for getting the transmitter back on the air, one would assume that it will be best placed to tell you.
Arqiva has a monitoring station at the Emley Moor transmitter, tel 01924 508100. Whilst Buxton is not part of the Emley Moor group, perhaps they can advise.
