Dereck: It rather depends if the transmitter your are getting the analogue channels from has a Freeview service.

Can you tell me why here, in the kilkeel area, we only get the basic freeview channels like BBC itv channels 4 and 5 and not the rest of the channels which are available in almost every other area of the country? When will we brought into line with everywhere else?

Andrew scott: The Commercial (COM) channels are never likely to broadcast from Kilkeel transmitter and over 1,000 other similar small relays. See here for an explanation:

Kevin Cunningham: Perhaps there are two issues:

1. Loss of PSB2 (which carries UTV, Channel 4, Channel 5 etc)

2. No picture on RT channels.

For RT channels you may require Freeview HD receivers. Some standard definition receivers will work, but no where near all.

Saorview pictures are encoded using the MPEG4 standard whereas Freeview standard definition pictures use the older MPEG2 standard. For that reason many Freeview SD receivers don't have the capability to decode MPEG4 pictures, but Freeview HD ones definately do.

As for number 1, I put the postcode of the Post Office in Annalong into Digital UK Coverage Checker and it doesn't look great. I wonder if you might be in a poor reception area.

Try manually tuning to UHF channel 42 for PSB2 from Kilkeel.

Hello. I have recently moved to Carrick On Shannon in Co Leitrim, about 40 miles from the border with Co Fermanagh. I have not yet had time to install a TV aerial, but I am wondering if anyone can tell me what I can expect to receive, what size and type of antenna I should purchase and where should I point it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Keith
