why can we not get the full set of freeview channels? We changed to youview and now have much fewer channels than we had using an old sky box to receive freeview. We only get about 15 tv channels. Are there plans to increase the number of channels available in skipton?

andy: The "full" set of Freeview channels comprises of those from the Public Service Broadcasters (PSBs) and those from the Commercial (COM) broadcasters. Whilst the PSBs have an obligation to provide a Public Service, the Commercial ones do not. As such, the latter stick the largest transmitting stations (largest by viewer population). In some parts where the Skipton transmitter is available, other full-service transmitters can be received, albeit that these are generally North West region rather than Yorkshire. The full-service transmitters that might be possible are Winter Hill and, near Lancashire, Pendle Forest (there may be others).

andy: YouView is an on-demand system which incorporates a Freeview (terrestrial) receiver.
Freesat "free time" is an on-demand system with free-to-air satellite channels. All channels which are on Freeview PSB muxes (i.e. those you have available from the Skipton transmitter) are on Freesat.

Since the recent re-tune I am unable to get a good picture on all the BBC channels. I have tried the manual re-tune as suggested but the picture is always very pixelated. I had no bother at all before the re-tune. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem as Peter naylorb, since the re-tune all BBC and all HD channels block out and fail completely. The commercial HD channels are a little more reliable though. I've tried manual and auto re-tunes on both my HD Recorder and my NEW TV (Samsung), my previous TV is also suffering the same problems. Since it happened after the re-tune I can't say it's anything around the home or the equipment / aerial. Check transmitter status and all I get is denial and told to check my setup. If I'm getting the commercial channels ok, then that suggests what?

Manual tuning shows C45 (commercial) Signal Quality at 100% consitently. C39 (BBC) bouncing between 28% and 60% signal quality. C42 (HD) between 20% and 100% blipping every few seconds.

Now that is interesting, after another manual re-tune all HD channels are now good. Still getting blocking on BBC SD channels though (C39) but they are more stable than previously. Doesn't alter the fact that this all kicked off with the last re-tune.

Nic Foxton: Have you had a look at Single frequency interference | Freeview Interference | ukfree.tv - 10 years of independent, free digital TV advice regarding C39?
It could be something putting out an analogue RF signal on (or even near) C39.

Hmm... getting no analogue around here at all, never mind 39 Briantist. Don't fancy climbing up there to replace the aerial as the majority of channels work, it's just the stuff on 39 that is "iffy" and last time I was up on the roof I came back white ;)
I've invested in Netflix now and will just have to make do with what I get on terrestrial even though I pay full license fee for reduced service. But thanks to this page I have improved things.
