I see the response re not receiving all freeview channels from the Haslingden transmitter due to it being a public service transmitter. Please could someone explain this...I thought a transmitter was a transmitter??

Thanks for the response.

So can I change to the winterhill transmitter somehow from the Haslingden one.
Two miles down the road in Rawtenstall the signal is received from Winterhill?

Your aerial installer will have probably pointed your aerial to Haslingden because that is the only transmitter available offering suitable reception. Have a look at digital uk postcode checker and see what that tells you.
If you really do want to receive from Winetrhill. Even though Winter Hill is receivable two miles down the road, there is always going to be a 'cut off' point where the signal from one transmitter (Winter Hill) is to weak, and signal from the other transmitter becomes the strongest one (from Haslingden)

Sandy: Digital UK's Postcode Checker gives a 99% chance of getting reliable reception from Winter Hill.

Terrain does block line-of-sight, but it's less than 10 miles away from an extremely strong transmitter. I would recommend getting a professional installer to look at it - they should have the right equipment to figure out the right size aerial and calibrate it properly.

Linda Stokes: Presumably you are receiving from Winter Hill transmitter. If any services are likely to be affected by a nearby 4G base station operating in the 800MHz band then it will be those you identify.

The organisation that can tell you if there are any 4G base stations in your area is at800. They may provide a free filter if it is suspected that this could be the cause of your issue.

Give them a ring and see what they say (bear in mind that it could be something unconnected with 4G signals):
