Dr Alan Green: The Dawlish transmitter is on a bearing of 318 degrees from your location. A wideband aerial would be recommended as the frequencies used by the transmitter will be changing next year, which should be mounted vertically. You're only 1km away so it may well be OK in the loft if it can be positioned so that it isn't pointing through any other objects or neighbouring lofts etc.

We live in Meadow Park in Dawlish only a very short distance from the transmitter, but cannot receive any free view signals down from the transmitter. It all seems rather unfair
Is there anything that can be done to resolve this?

Andrew Logan: Are you using an aerial that previously received TV from the transmitter OK, and therefore are wondering what has changed?

Check that your aerial is still pointing correctly and that the downlead isn't flapping about in the wind which may have caused it to have an internal break. Also check for loose connections and nothing has come unplugged behind the TV etc.
How long has this problem been going on?
Are there any new mobile phone masts near you?
