Hello,
We live in cirencester and cannot get itv1 and channel 4 and a few others. It disappeared off out box about 2 months ago.
Any ideas? I have tried retuning the box but it just doesn't pick them up, my box also doesn't let me manually type in frequencies etc, it is an ALBA.
Any help will be much appreciated, thank you.

emma: If your box is tuned to the Cirencester relay transmitter the frequency for Mux D3+4 changed from C30 to C29 in September 2011. As a result you would need to do a factory reset to clear the channel list and erase all memory of the old frequency before the box would realise that the new C29 frequency is required to be tuned in. If on the other hand you are using Mendip (aerial points SW) or Oxford (aerial points E) the box could be tuned in to the wrong transmitter as Mendip (C54) is found second in the scan and Oxford (C60-) third. Check in the channel list for a duplicate ITV1 that works, this is usually to be found in the 800s if there is one. Also check for single frequency interference on the required frequency if there are no versions of ITV1 etc found after doing a reset/ scan for channels.

When will we get all the other channels (dave, yesterday etc) from the cirencester west transmitter? Just the other side of town recieve the full line up from the oxford transmitter. Very frustrating to essentially be paying the same as others for the box and licence fee, yet only receiving a portion of the available channels.

Paul: The reason you do not get the "full" Freeview service is because the channels you don't get are operated on a commercial basis. The Commercial operators decide where to put their transmitters, their business plan being that they sell advertising to advertisers.
They achieve 90% coverage of the population by broadcasting from 80 or so of the biggest (by population) sites. To transmit from the 1000 or so transmitters such as Cirencester would roughly double their costs of transmission, something which they have decided against.
For a fuller explanation, see here:

This is capitalism for you. If it isn't likely to produce a return, then it won't get done.
The Licence Fee goes only to the BBC which is a service that broadcasts from Cirencester. If you are receiving BBC, ITV1, Channel 4, Channel 5, ITV2, More4, E4, HD and a few others, then you have all channels that are available from Cirencester. These are the Public Service Broadcaster multiplexes.
The best thing you can do is see if you may be in an area where you can receive directly from a transmitter that carries the Commercial channels. Oxford and Mendip may be the two main ones in the general area of Cirencester.

Thanks Dave, that really clears things up. Always the way in rural areas - last to get any decent services!
I've been doing some investigating since you posted the reply, and you're right about the Oxford transmitter which serves the other side of Cirencester. Ridge Hill seems to be another one relativly close by.
Would you mind explaining how I would go about receiving direct from a transmitter?
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks for your advice already. It's certainly opened my eyes to a few facts!

Jackie W Brown: The BBC have added a number of temporary channels for their Olympic coverage, a retune would have been required for your TV or box to add these channels if it didn't already add them automatically.

I have had to change my channel 29 to 30 to get ITV & CH4 etc. Why is there no mention of this and the map still list these programmes as being on ch29?
