There are only a few channels working on my TV. I have re-tuned and the 16 channels have increased to 60. However there is no TV guide or picture or sound with the 44 channels found. I suspect a transmitter problem.

It's possibly the Tropospheric Propagation/Temperature Inversion due to current weather conditions Effect of tropospheric ducting on Freeview | Help receiving TV and radio which is resulting in interference from distant transmitters. There have been a few reports from people in the South & SouthWest with these problems at present.
Try a retune with the aerial unplugged to clear all previous tuning, then plug the aerial back in and repeat the retune. Hopefully you'll regain some/all channels. But as you have retuned you may have picked up signals from a distant transmitter and have to retune yet again as conditions change.
