Dronfield

Hi. We currently use Dronfield and our aerial is V polarization. Will we have to spin it round to H in August when the transmitter moves over to digital? Moreover, will I need a new aerial, given that this one is only a few months old? Thanks in advance.

rich: If you use Dronfield at the moment then your aerial will be horizontal at the moment.

Vertical polarisation means you are using Sheffield or Chesterfield.

You can already get Freeview services from Sheffield.

You do not need a new aerial or to change your existing aerial around at switchover.

I live in Norton Sheffield & recieve my signal from the Dronfield transmitter.
Can you tell me what is happening as the signal for ITV 1 , 2 ,4, 5, more 4, E4 & film 4 stopped working at 10.00am today. It came back 2 hours later and has now gone again tonight.
It also effects my next door neighbour.
I have tried retuning the tv and have now lost all the channels from my tv

Norman Cook: There is engineering works at Emley Moor which might interrupt television broadcasts. We have had reports from people using Emley who've had interruption to ITV etc.

As Dronfield transmitter receives its signal off-air from Emley then maybe at times the signal from Emley isn't good enough for it.

The answer is not to retune because that's just shooting yourself in the foot. It's only compounded the problem!

Norman Cook: I take back what I said. Dronfield is fed over the air from Chesterfield which is line-fed (phone line) from Emley.

Looking at the spread of the signal from the Dronfield transmitter I'm surprised you can receive it in Norton.

In any case, reception from Crosspool/Tapton Hill would give you all the channels.

The following post has been copied from the Chesterfield transmitter page.

"I'm a Local TV Aerial Installer and have noticed since the Retune event on the 5th that in certain areas in Dronfield the CBER readings on CH37 (ITV mux) are very bad and on the edge of Pixellation. I have reported this to Freeview.

Regards
Darren."

Also note that at the present time, the site owner has not had the chance to update the list of channels here -
From the 5th Feb.2020 the channels are C39, C42, C45 in the order PSBs 1-3.
