John Spendlove: As you reside in a large block then it would seem likely you are using a communal aerial system.
Therefore, if the aerial system is at fault then this should be reported to the party responsible so as remedial measures can be carried out, this for the benefit of everyone.
You should confirm that BBC One (standard definition) is tuned to UHF channel 48 (690MHz), this being that of the Hunmanby transmitter. This information is usually given on the signal strength screen.

We can-not receive BBC1 Look north in HD from the hunmanby transmitter we have to change channels to the non HD channel
We also receive the local adverts from Granada Tv when viewing ITV.

If you look at the channel information near the top of this page you will see that BBC1 HD does not have any regional news service, taking only the national news (we have the same limitation in the South West). The ITV service is shown as being from Granada, hence their adverts.

I have recently moved to Hunmanby, about 2 weeks ago, and I cannot get all the TV channels I used to get when living on the Pennines. I have also had to purchase a new TV. When setting up I found many of the channels I used to view were missing. The notes in this article match the current performance of my new TV.
If I get a new 'digital' aerial from Screwfix will this correct the issue?
Will I need to install it pointing in another direction, compared to the current aerial, if so can you advise on the direction?

David Sampson: The Humanby transmitter is a Freeview Lite relay which only provides a small number of channels. If you provide a full postcode we can check whether you may be able to receive more channels from another transmitter. Just buying a new aerial and pointing it at the same transmitter is unlikely to make any difference (there is no such thing as a digital aerial, it is a piece of metal which doesn't know or care if the signals being received are analogue or digital).

I would also advise NOT to buy most types of aerial supplied by screwfix. A lot of them will be what the trade call "bacofoil" aerials. They are quite flimsy and it often only needs a few pigeons to land on them and bits are bent or broken will can adversely affect reception. Most will also tend to be wideband which will not have as good a gain as a grouped aerial which is what you are likely to need to stand a chance of getting reliable signals.
Some parts of Hunmanby MAY be able to receive signals from another transmitter, quite a few may not - that's why there's a relay transmitter. This is why a full postcode is needed to look at the predicted reception. It's possible that for some, signals may be received from 3 main transmitters BUT they will not always be reliable, especially with the wrong kind of aerial.
