The tv signal in my area has been down for over two weeks now and i am unable to pick up any kind of signal. I am in shared accomadation and it is the same for all tennents. The aerial is mounted on the roof of the building. on tuning it pics up limited amount of channels around 24 but then displays weak or no signal.

Hi,

We've watched freeview through a Pioneer digital terrestial box successfully for years with the arial in the loft space. However following the first digital switch over date we could no longer receive any BBC channels and then after 13th April no channels at all. On searching for channels none are found, I've also tried down loading an update but this just gives an error message. I've read that the Madingley transmitter no longer broadcasts but also that we should now be served by stronger signals from elsewhere. Have you any advice?
Thanks,
Richard

Richard: Yes, Madingley has closed for TV transmissions.

I would guess your box is on this list - TVs and boxes that do not support the 8k-mode | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

Richard: Freeview in your area has always come from the Sandy Heath transmitter. If you have a booster or amplifier, try removing it now. You're 28km from Sandy Heath, which isn't that far when the power levels are this high.

I'm in a village outside Cambridge. Digital retune worked the first time and for two days after 13th April. The lady on the help line says we won't get some channels until August but they have them over the road and arn't on Freesat or Sky. Pip

About a week ago we started having freeview reception problems. Our postcode is CB12PJ. Up to now reception has always been ok. We have no 4G filter or signal booster fitted. Anything known to have changed in that location recently that could explain the problem ? Any suggestions gratefully received. Was planning to try a 4g filter tomorrow, then signal booster if that fails.

emmawright: I suggest you do nothing as over the last few days at least there have been reports of lost and poor reception over a large portion of the country, from Sussex and Kent in the south up as far as Yorkshire. This has been caused by atmospherics causing signals to travel much further than normal. This resulted in people finding that they couldn't receive from their local transmitter because of interference from a distant one.

If you are using a communal aerial system then any filter should be fitted into it at the aerial end. In many cases filters are fitted anyway.

The question, if a communal aerial system is being used, is one of is the issue with your own equipment (including leads) or is it with the signal coming from the wall socket? If it's the latter then this is beyond your control and is down to the aerial system for which the party responsible should be informed so as to take action. If it's the aerial system, you don't need to decide what the problem is. It isn't your problem, you simply report it as faulty.

It is worth enquiring with neighbours to see if they have an issue. These should be neighbours using the same communal system and using it for Freeview and not satellite such as Freesat or Sky.
