I think it went down at about 11.05am and it's still off now - 12.05. It seems to be one of the most unreliable relays in the country. Roll on Freeview Play and TV via the internet

You're telling me! I also think it's totally unfair that transmitters are privately owned and these owners can decide which channels we can and can't have - surely the point of a Freeview is that EVERYONE gets the same channels - doesn't our licence fee also go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the transmitters?

Shaz: You can get all of the BBC channels (except BBC4 HD, which irritates me) which your licence fee pays for but most of the commercial providers don't think it's worth their while to pay for the transmission of their whole spectrum of channels to a small number of homes. I'm currently watching TV through a Roku streaming stick, but you can't get live BBC on it.

David Mansell: It's back on now 13.13. No doubt it will be reported as "transmitter work"

You say the Todmorden relay has no problems today but it's been not broadcasting TV or FM since about 10.30 am today.

Transmitter engineering: Yes it has come back but the strange thing I noticed yesterday is still happening : the sound is out of sync with the picture, lagging the picture by a few tens of micrseconds, even on live transmission.

My HD picture started breaking up at lunch-time today and now it's non-existent so the BBC information is incorrect. SD is still working

David Mansell: I understand your fustration over the years at this particular relay transmitter but you have to remember it's not just this one that occasionally has the odd fault or engineering maintainance, it's all the other hundreds and hundreds of relays around the UK as well.

Todmorden in particular has an odd set up as instead of receiving its services direct from Emley Moor, the transmitter receives via Cornholme first.

Strange to think the location of the site was selected because of its line of site to Winter Hill ... sadly Winter Hill has absolutely nothing to do with Todmordens transmissions anymore

Harry of Oldham, I can only report what happens to my signal and today the HD signal seems to be very dodgy again, Ironically before this week the HD signal was fine and it was the SD signal which suffered from strange blips. It's bad enough having to suffer the second-class service which is Freeview-Lite but they ought to spend some money to make the transmitter more reliable. I just wish I could get all my television via the internet as we have FTTC here and average speeds of 35Mbp/sec.
