Des O'Hara: The first thing to check is that your TV/box is tuned to the signal from the transmitter to which your aerial points and not another one.

If you are on Wharfedale, then BBC is Ch25 and ITV1/C4/C5 is on Ch22. HD services are on Ch28. Is this what you have?

A bit off topic, why does the analogue radio signal deteriorate badly in the evenings. Touch and go for some channels even with a rooftop aerial. John. Burley in wharfedale

Ilkley

We seem to be experiencing reception problems with BBC channels on the West side of Ilkley.
Reception on ITV, Ch4, Ch5 etc is fine; just the BBC channels keep breaking up.
We have a roof aerial.
Any thoughts, ideas, or theories?
Thanks

Delahaye: The first thing to check is that your TV is tuned to the correct transmitter.

I assume that your aerial is pointing east at Wharfedale. Go to the signal strength screen on BBC One, it should say that it is on UHF channel 25. If it says anything else (and your aerial is facing east), then it's tuned wrong and that's your problem.

If it's picked up the signal from Addingham, it will say 43. Simple answer is to run the automatic tuning scan with the aerial plugged in, and then unplug it when it gets to 25% so it doesn't "see" the signal from Addingham.

k cornish: Because the Commercial networks don't see it as a worthwhile return to pay for the transmitters to such small populations.

See here for an explanation:

All you can do is investigate the possibility of receiving the full service from another transmitter such as Idle, Emley Moor or Bilsdale.
