If anyone wants an aerial upgrade, DERBYSHIRE VISION from Glossop are the people to do it! Professional service and decent prices.
You don't have to be stuck on the local transmitter as in certain areas you are able to get Winter Hill, even though the postcode checker says you can't. We know as we have tested many areas and located signals in awkward places.

So when will Glossop actually get a DAB signal? We're listed on the BBC National DAB Network Coverage Expansion Plan as an additional site to achieve the 97% coverage, but there is no expected date.

Why can't we receive freeview TV from the Castle Hill Transmitter Hadfield as we feel that we are cheated as we pay out TV licence but only receive 16 channels and some are duplicated.
Thanking you in this matter.

Philip Anderson:

a) we dont need to know your address - your not writing a letter that we will be replying to, and you've now released your full postal address and name to the whole of the internet....

b) the answer to your question is simple, and has been repeated many times - commercial broadcasters dont think your worth it. There are just too few of you in your area to make it worth broadcasting to you, because they have to pay for their service to be carried. Its the same way that you dont have a world class hospital or a massive supermarket in every village.

Your licence fee pays for the BBC, which you do get. If they didn't bother, then you'd get nothing, because the cost of broadcasting to the 100's or more 'light' transmitters' is the same as broadcasting on the main transmitters. Light transmitters cover just 8% of the population.

Best idea - just get Freesat.

Have your HD channels returned? I can't find any reports by Freeview or the BBC about any faults affecting the Glossop transmitter which is what I'm assuming you receive (or other nearby ones that you might receive!).
There has been some very variable Tropospheric Ducting around which can affect individual frequencies at different times and come and go. See Effect of tropospheric ducting on Freeview | Help receiving TV and radio

PR8 5ES. My transmitter is Winter Hill. Since the storms a few months ago, all the COM4 multiplex channels keep dropping out during the day with weak or no signal, sometimes, but not always, returning in the evening. No other stations are affected. Initially I though it might be the weather, or the planned engineering shown for the Skelmersdale relay, but the latter appears to have finished and the weather doesn't hamper any other MUX. My aerial hasn't been shifted by the storm and is pointing in the same direction as everybody else's. I use a signal booster. I tried using two in relay, but there was no apparent improvement, so I'm back to one. This is only a recent problem. I've had it before with Wales stations which come and go according to weather, but this COM4 one has me baffled. Any suggestions?

Dave Williams:

How old is your aerial installation? If it is several years before the final 700MHz Clearance retune in August 2020, it may well be an old Group C/D aerial which isn't deigned to pick up the lower channels now used by Winter Hill very effectively. COM4/SDN is the lowest.
You say no other channels are affected but unless you've looked in your TV tuning section at the signal strength and quality for each multiplex, they may be also suffering a reduction in signal but not sufficient to appear as a problem and this of course can vary with the weather especially when water is getting into the aerial connections or coax.

In the multiplex order BBCA/PSB1, D3&4/PSB2, BBCB HD/PSB3, SDN/COM4, ArqA/COM5, ArqB/COM6, COM7
Winter Hill UHF channels are -
The main multiplexes are C32, C34, C35, C29, C31, C37, C55

The Local ones are Local Manchester, Manchester GI on C24 & C27.
Liverpool Local mux on C21, Preston Local mux on C40.

You are predicted to get good reception of the main multiplexes, but variable recption of the Preston Local mux. You aren't predicted to get the others. As you've discovered you're predicted to get some (good) reception from the Moel y Parc (Wales) transmitter.

Look in your TV Tuning section for the Signal Strength and Quality (or Error/BER) figures for each UHF multiplex and post the figures. It should give us a feel for what is going on.
Be careful with signal boosters, too much signal can appear to give similar issues as too little. Eg. if you have 100% signal but NOT 100% Quality you may have too much signal. You should always have 100% Quality, but really excesaive signal can overload the tuner front end and appear to give less signal strength as well as less quality.
