When will the Kendal transmitter broadcast the full range of Freeview channels?

Michael Mulvany: not for the foreseeable future. The commercial channels don't see enough benefit in extending their broadcasts to the 1,000-odd relay transmitters, and they are not required to do so. Unless they change their minds, the answer is 'never'.

You state that the Kendal Fell transmitter is polarised horizontally but the antennas pointing at it in Arnside are mounted for vertical polarisation, am I missing something?

Keith Cawley: I would imagine the aerials are pointing at another transmitter.

We have freeview lite. Why can't we get itv4 which has live football, when we get itv+1, C4+1,E4+1. All they do is show stuff twice and we miss out completely on ITV4, film 4. There should be no +1 channels until the full ITV/ C4 network is available on freeview lite

Chris: The Digital UK postcode checker predicts that you can receive a full Freeview service from Lancaster, using a group A aerial mounted for vertical polarisation and pointing South at 185 degrees. Most viewers would agree with you regarding "+1" channels, the broadcasters however see a second transmission of their main channel as being more attractive to advertisers.

Chris: See also Freeview retune - poor public service transmitters deal | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice . The "+1" channels for ITV1 and Channel 4+1 have to be on Mutliplex 2/D3+4 because they have regional versions, and multiplexes SDN, ArqA and ArqB are the same UK-wide (with the exception of SDN in Wales).

Thanks Briantist and kmj. We have downsized to an apartment in a block of flats so have to rely on internal ariel. Have emailed ITV but don't expect any meaningful response. I can't understand why ITV don't give us ITV4 given their investment in sport. 8% of potential viewers sounds like a group worth catering for. However, logic doesn't seem to count in in Freeview lite.
