David: Sorry - as far as we know, the answer is never. The commercial multiplex operators have refused the right to transmit from any more sites, and the regulator has decided not to force them.
If you were using the Frome relay because of 'ghosting' on analogue, you might now be able to get a full service from a main transmitter, but it does depend on the terrain. If you provide a full postcode we can check this. You're likely to need a new aerial, though.

My daughter has just moved into Trowbridge (BS14) and there is an old tv aerial in the loft. What sort of new digital aerial will I need for the loft and in which direction will I need to point it (Mendip? Frome?)please. (BS14 an)

You need a rooftop aerial for reliable Freeview reception, loft aerials are not suitable for stable reception.

I don't have any problems with freeview though sometimes on some tv stations the signal is rather weak, it appears to depend on the weather.
My question is...... my roof aerial currently points towards the Mendip transmitter near Wells. Should I point it towards the Frome transmitter?

Peter Millican: The Frome transmitter only broadcasts around 19 TV channels so you will probably find that you would loose a lot more channels by turning your aerial to Frome than if you keep it pointed at Mendip.
