Thanks for your reply. My mother has her own aerial. However there has been a development since my last post. I decided to disconnect the booster which had been fitted by a qualified engineer a couple of months ago and found that the picture quality increased to what it had been before we went away and the subtitles are now OK. The channels were all over the place - could only get a couple but after some manual retuning I managed to get everything back to normal. Still don't understand what happened but hopefully all is OK now. Could have saved myself almost two hours on the phone to Currys and LG who were no help at all. Thanks for your trouble.

Reading the posts for Darley Dale area I am disappointed to find that after a long wait we will only get a reduced service
To receive more channels would I have to get a satellite dish or just re-position my aerial?

Ann Tait: Note that Digital UK predict 100% reception on digital, *after* switchover. That would suggest very high signal levels, which I would expect at 3 miles from a relatively high-power relay.
Your switchover starts tonight - BBC Two analogue will disappear some time shortly after midnight. ITV1 analogue will move to BBC Two's frequency, so will appear on button 2 for the next two weeks. BBC digital services will start up some time during the day, expected to be by 6am but keep an eye on Digital UK - Relay transmitter switching times .
On a TV with built-in digital tuner, you may have to press the Source button on the remote to switch between the BBC channels on digital, and ITV1 and Channel 4 on analogue. With an external set-top box or PVR, again you need to select the TV's SCART input to watch BBC digital channels. If your TV doesn't have a SCART socket, you will need a set-top box or PVR that puts its output on a spare RF channel (has an RF modulator), and tune a spare channel on the TV into the box's output.
The remaining analogue channels will be switched off after midnight on the 31st, i.e. in two weeks' time, and replaced by the remaining digital services.

Got didgital channels fine on TV and all BBC channels are great on my Panasonic DVD recorder but all the rest are breaking up and unwatchable.
I do have a signal booster in the loft and the aerial goes onto the DVD and then TV and its conncted by a HDMI cable as well.
Any suggestions please?

Dora: Check that the problem channels on the DVD recorder are being received on C62. If you supply your postcode a check can be made on the trade predictor for reception at your location.

thanks for your suggestion - all the channels that I have problems with are on C62 the signal strength is 10 but the signal quality in my dvd recorder is in the red, whereas all the others are in the green.
(are you too young to remember that BT advert with Mauren Lipman?).

Dora: It is possible that the signal is now too strong and is overloading the tuner in the DVD recorder on C62.If possible try connecting the aerial direct to the DVD without a booster in line, otherwise insert an attenuator in the aerial feed before the DVD recorder.

Seem to have sorted it. Our TV is on a swival wall bracket and I had tuned the DVD recorder which sits on a shelve underneath, to digital while it was against the wall.
When I swival it out the signal quality comes into the green and against the wall its yellow then red, although it no londer seems to break up.
I assume its something to do with all the wiring being too close when the TV is back against the wall.
