zoe: An exact location, preferrably in the form of a post code might help assess the possibility of reception of another transmitter. The question is perhaps not quite one of "if" you direct your aerial at another transmitter, but rather if you can ever receive a stable signal from another transmitter.

The fact that Truro is in a valley reduces the chances; indeed the reason for the need for the relay is because the populas is low down and cannot "see" any other transmitter.

The reason you only get a limited number of channels from the Truro relay is outlined in the link provided by Briantist on 17 January. As explained, this is unlikely to change.

TR1 1NQ. Clear view to transmitter. Up until a few weeks ago we had a signal strength of 9 for BBC. Now it is 4. Nothing has changed here.

Why do I received ITV HD Central in Truro? Also get the same on Satelitte?

Marc S: Because there are far fewer ITV1 HD regions than there are ITV1 regions and sub-regions:

Why are so many supposedly free FREEVIEW channels, such as the new Drama channel, not available in Cornwall?
Will they eventually become available?
I am in the Roseland TR2 5DR

Y Fuller: Because there are two types of broadcaster in the UK: Public Service and Commercial.

The Commercial (COM) networks which carry Drama and others have free reign on where they wish to broadcast from, a decision which was driven by their objective to make a profit.

The Public Service Broadcaster (PSB) networks, on the other hand, must provide a service to the population, which means installing transmitters like St Anthony in Roseland that serve small pockets.

For a further explanation see:

Londonderry (Northern Ireland) Freeview Light transmitter | ukfree.tv - 11 years of independent, free digital TV advice

You would appear to be in a spot where reception of the full complement of channels from an alternative transmitter is not possible.

Perhaps consider a satellite service such as Freesat. This does not carry Drama because it is only available via satellite on Sky's subscription platform.

We are in Truro very close to the transmitter. Just bought a Panasonic with built in Freeview HD. Whilst it can pick up the BBC channels they all have intermittent signal, especially the HD channels. Would a signal booster help with this?
