We have bought a house in Holme Next The Sea and wonder in which direction we should place our free view Ariel . Most that can be seen seem to point towards what I understand is the Belmont transmitter , yet there are smaller transmitters at Lynn and Burnham . Wouldn't these be more appropriate for receiving news etc for Norfolk?

Colin Campbell: You should do exactly as you suggest: use Belmont to get the "Full Freeview" service and then use the local transmitters to supply the correct versions of the BBC and ITV channels.
You will need to use two aerials - with a " diplexer" to connect them together, and you will also need to use a Freeview box that understands how to change the regions.
For your location, this is the standard arrangement.

Colin Campbell: My parents-in-law actually live Burnham Market, and they have been using Belmont for Freeview for many years, and as Brianist points out, that will be a full service, although you could have both local and belmont services by using the advice above.
However, because of the slightly strange nature of Norfolk's reception pattern (Talcneston is often masked by the small hills which run through the area, and the coastline is convex), a lot of people use a satellite system. My parents-in-law have a Panasonic TV with a Freesat tuner, and my father-in-law recently put up a dish. Freesat allows you to chose your local regional news, so they get Anglian news as well.
Your TV might have a Freesat tuner built in, or a generic tuner (have a look on the back), or you can buy a Manhatten reciever for less than £50. Satcure has a very good guide on how to put one up, and you can buy a kit from them. My personal suggestion is to install a quad LNB if you do - the extra cost is marginal, but if you ever want to add more equipment, all you need to do in run extra cables. If you want one put up, £79 for a single LNB dish is a decent average price.

Another question , is it worth getting a signal booster if I went down the Freeview/Belmont route to prevent picture break up?

Colin Campbell: Its possibly worth checking your signal strength first - my parents-in-law complained that their Freeview signal occasionally broke up a little. I had a look a their signal strength - the Panasonic was reading 100%! Even though the signal was coming all the way from Yorkshire, they had the problem (only occasionally) of too strong a signal!
It might be that you have the same problem - too strong, not too weak. Boosters might help, but I'd check out general strength first, and if you supply your TV's make and model, it might be that it has a sat. tuner in it as well, which might be a better solution for the long term.
